Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Merrill.
Hi Jennifer , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am a Blackhawk pilot in the MN Army National Guard. I was on deployment overseas when my friend asked if I would be interested in going into business with her in Worker B. I was familiar with the company because I already loved their products. After speaking with my husband, we decided that we would love to be part of Worker B. We purchased the business while on deployment. My husband and business partner worked out the details of the purchase and once I arrived home from deployment, I got right to work. I learned how to make the product and run a business. Over one year later, I am running day to day operations of the business and learning something new everyday. I am using my GI Bill to go back to school for business and marketing.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road! I had many challenges along the way to include struggling to learn how to run a business, knowing how to manage employees, understanding the tax structure, and working with a business partner. I am lucky to have a great husband, he has been a rock for me.
One major challenge was making the product. I was in the production room and we have a gas burner to warm up the oils to make our lotions, putty and cream. I never liked the gas burner and it started on fire one day. I put out the fire and tossed the burner right into the trash and bought a electrical burner.

At Worker B, we specialize in beeswax and honey based skin care products. All of our products are made from organic oils and organic essential oils, and local honey and beeswax. I hand make each and everyone of our products. What sets apart from other skin care companies is we use ingredients that is unmistakable good for your skin. I have a product made of two ingrediencies and another made of three. I have a customer base that specifically buys those two products because they have skin conditions and Worker B Putty and Cream is the only product that helps them. I am proud to know all of our local bee keepers and have seen their farms and industries.
