Conversations with Meredith Moore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meredith Moore.

Hi Meredith, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a sought-after keynote speaker, accomplished author, and entrepreneur. I share my experience helping women advance in corporate America and my shift to entrepreneurship to motivate audiences to take action and positively impact their communities. I am an award-winning corporate speechwriter and a certified executive coach supporting high-achieving C-suite executives.

I penned the book, Getting Unstuck: A Guide to Moving Your Career Forward, which features a foreword by Don Thompson, president and chief executive of McDonald’s Corporation from 2012 to 2015.

Nine years ago, I left corporate to repurpose and rebrand my family’s 50-year-old business into a public relations and executive coaching agency focused on creating opportunities for talented people facing barriers to access to employment opportunities.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There are always challenges as a leader navigating unchartered waters. Through mentorship and faith, I’ve been able to find a path that suits my goals.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My book, Getting Unstuck: A Guide to Moving Your Career Forward, shares career advice from my experience supporting the most diverse leadership team in the history of McDonald’s Corporation. Readers learn productivity tips and a step-by-step guide to identifying the right mentor, overcoming imposter syndrome, and evolving your leadership brand. My executive coaching practice is based on my experience leading award-winning initiatives and facilitating conversations across 119 countries to help women advance and create more inclusive global cultures. My Sunrise Affirmation Cards feature a beautiful beach backdrop and 52 statements, such as “I am Enough” and my favorite, “I’m at the top of my game personally and professionally.”

For nearly 9 years, I’ve led Leverette Weekes, which has a rich history spanning over 50 years since its establishment in 1973 by my parents, Cornell Leverette Moore and Wenda Weekes Moore. After a successful career in corporate America, I repurposed and rebranded Leverette Weekes as a powerful executive coaching and communications agency.

Leverette Weekes provides management communications consulting, including media relations, public relations campaigns, ghostwriting, and individual executive coaching or leadership development programs for underrepresented groups. Its award-winning services also include strategic communications, community relations programs, and educating audiences on the benefits of sharing your narrative as a motivational speaker.

Leverette Weekes boasts an impressive clientele list, including McKnight Foundation, Minnesota Business Coalition for Racial Equity (MBCRE), Cleveland Avenue Venture Capital, Visa, GreenLight Fund Twin Cities, Teach for America Twin Cities, Lyft, the Pritzker Traubert Foundation, the James L. and John S. Knight Foundation, and the Cleveland Avenue Foundation for Education Group (CAFE Group).

Two years ago, I joined my colleague, Dr. Tashion Macon, in launching the Momentum Summit on Martha’s Vineyard to celebrate Black philanthropy month and the women leading in the field. The initiative has expanded to attract leaders from across the country to discuss current issues and how we can continue to ensure our communities have the resources to overcome them.

I’m also honored to serve as the chair of the national governing board of Jeremiah Program, a national organization with a mission to disrupt the cycle of poverty for single mothers and their children, two generations at a time. Each year at the Summit, I love encouraging moms with their business ideas and entrepreneurial journeys as a Spark Tank judge.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the four seasons— from the colorful fall leaves to the silence of snow days– summer is still my favorite but as a gardener I’m also a big fan of the promise of spring time.

I wish our city had a high speed train to more easily commute to Chicago.
