Today we’d like to introduce you to Brynn Lee.
Brynn, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I spent my years in college taking every opportunity to become a better writer and speaker because I knew what I was being called to do after. I graduated from Bethel University in 2023 with a love for three things: speaking, writing, and people. Eventually, these passions launched me into the ministry sphere, where I used my writing skills at a non-profit, which eventually led me to the opportunity to be the Communications Director at Vertical Church St. Paul. I so admired the work being done at this church that I told myself, “If there is ever an open seat at that table, I’m going to take it.” Last year, God opened that door, and I walked through it.
One thing that has always been clear to me is what I’m on earth to do: Share the Gospel and biblical truths through communication. It’s with this conviction that I write, design, dialogue, lead, and speak.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has not been smooth. I’ve had to keep knocking on doors before they’ve opened and, at times, accept closed doors and trust God’s sovereignty. I am also a deeply loyal person, so leaving any organization as I’m being led to the next thing has felt agonizing.
Another struggle has been my age. I’m (almost) 25, but have been given many opportunities to lead and speak when there are others who are much older and more experienced in the room. I’ve faced imposter syndrome at times because of that. However, over time, my confidence has grown as I have come to know more clearly who and whose I am. I know the work I’ve been given to do, trust I’ve been equipped, and step forward. I continually hold to this Truth in 1 Timothy 4:12: “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.” An example can be set, no matter the age.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As the Communications Director at Vertical Church, I oversee all of our communication processes, whether that be email, website, social media, etc. I also work to keep the integrity of our brand by overseeing photography and directing designers. I design many materials myself—which I’ve come to love! Every Sunday, I have the opportunity to welcome new guests and let people know what is going on at the church from the stage for each of our three services. Outside of that, I drink a lot of coffee with a lot of different people and read lots of books to help me in my work.
Recently, I was given the opportunity to teach the Women’s Fall Study, where I worked alongside our Executive Pastor to develop the content for the 5 Solas of the Protestant Reformation series. I am most excited to be the host of The Vertical Life Podcast, where I get to speak with other pastors and staff members each week about Biblical Truths.
When I can, I like to submit my writings to different publication companies. Earlier this year, my article “Winning the Battle Against Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder” was published on The Truly Co blog. Similarly, a photographer and friend of mine have been working on creating a testimonial book for over 2.5 years.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t believe in luck, but I do believe in blessings. All I have been given I owe to Jesus—it’s for His glory, not mine.
