Meet Grissel Hintz of Mankato

Today we’d like to introduce you to Grissel Hintz.

Hi Grissel, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve loved hair since I was a child, starting with braiding my Barbie dolls. After graduating from Regency Beauty Institute in 2013, I worked at a blowout bar doing hair and makeup for brides, special events, and even Santa at the Mall of America.

I also have experience as a model and actress, which gave me insight into styling for cameras and live appearances. In 2018, I launched my own business, Hairstyles by Grissel, and now travel across the Twin Cities and beyond offering hair, makeup, and airbrush services for weddings, quinceañeras, photoshoots, and special events. I work with models, actors at modeling agencies, and influencers to create polished, professional looks.

What drives me most is helping clients transform and feel confident, whether it’s on their wedding day or in front of the camera.”

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
“My journey hasn’t always been smooth—like many creative careers, it’s had its challenges. Starting out, I worked hard to build my skills, gain clients, and establish myself in a competitive industry. Balancing freelance work, learning new techniques, and managing a business took dedication and resilience. Even now, I travel almost daily from Mankato to the Twin Cities to serve my clients.

There were moments of uncertainty, especially when figuring out my niche and growing my brand. But each challenge taught me patience, perseverance, and the importance of continuously learning. Those experiences shaped the artist and business owner I am today, making every client transformation and moment of success even more rewarding.”

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a hairstylist and makeup artist specializing in weddings, quinceañeras, photoshoots, and special events. I work with models, actors, and influencers, and I’m especially skilled at creating full, voluminous styles for both fine and thick hair without the need for extensions. What sets me apart is my combination of technical skill, creativity, and personal experience as a model and actress, which helps me deliver looks that are beautiful, unique, and camera-ready.”

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I love most about the Twin Cities is the incredible community and the variety of opportunities for creativity. There’s such a vibrant arts and culture scene, and I love being able to connect with so many talented people—whether it’s photographers, models, or fellow artists.

What I like least is the traffic and the distance I travel from Mankato almost daily—it can be challenging at times—but it’s worth it to do what I love and serve my clients across the cities.”
