Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassandra King.
Hi Cassandra, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been a creative soul for as long as I can remember. Some of my earliest memories include sitting with my grandpa decorating Christmas ornaments. He was incredibly artistic and I truly believe that spark was passed down through our family. Creativity became this safe joyful space for me from a very young age.
Growing up, I dreamed of owning a creative business long before I knew what “entrepreneurship” even meant. One time, my sister and I made those classic beaded lizards and tried to sell them to other kids around the neighborhood. Looking back, that feels like a small preview of where my life would eventually lead.
As an adult, that love for creativity grew into what is now my business, Pretty Pineapple Bead – a colorful, confidence-boosting jewelry brand built around empowerment, self-expression, and joyful design. Before Pretty Pineapple Bead existed, I experimented with other creative ventures, including a small dropshipping business. While it wasn’t wildly successful, it taught me valuable lessons about entrepreneurship and helped shape the kind of business I wanted to build.
Pretty Pineapple Bead truly began during a season of burnout. I was working a stressful retail job and feeling creatively empty. I sat down one day, sorted through some beads, and made my very first bracelet. I wasn’t trying to start a business. I just needed a moment of calm. But that simple act of creating brought me a sense of peace and joy that I hadn’t felt in a long time.
I began making jewelry wherever I could, spending a couple of years experimenting and building my inventory before signing up for my first craft show. I remember crying tears of joy on the drive home after that show. It was the first time I truly felt seen as an artist.
Since then, I continued following what feels aligned and joyful. One of the most meaningful parts of my business has been the growth of my DIY Bead Bar. What started as a small, interactive element in my summer craft show booth has grown into something people genuinely look forward to. Watching someone create something with their own hands and walk away proud of it is incredibly special. It eventually expanded into private DIY Bead Bar parties, where groups of friends or family come together to create, connect, and make memories.
Today, Pretty Pineapple Bead represents a journey I never could have planned. One rooted in creativity, healing, and connection. What began as a simple way to unwind has grown into a business that allows me to create meaningful pieces, build community, and share joy through color. I’m grateful for where it’s taken me so far, and I’m excited to continue growing in a way that feels aligned and authentic.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. Like most creative businesses, the challenges have changed over time. Some seasons have been more mentally or emotionally challenging, while others have been more financially stressful. Building something from the ground up means constantly learning, adjusting, and figuring things out as you go.
Over the years, I’ve taken breaks or slowed down when I needed to, usually when those mental, emotional, or financial pressures started to pile up. Instead of pushing through at all costs, I’ve learned to listen to myself and treat those moments as opportunities to pause, regroup, and move forward with more clarity.
What has always kept me going is my mindset around learning. I truly believe there’s no such thing as failure unless you give up. Every challenge has taught me something, whether it’s asking, “How can I do this better next time?” or “What can I learn from this?” Those questions have helped me grow both as an artist and as an entrepreneur.
Looking back, I’ve learned that progress doesn’t have to be loud or fast to be meaningful. Even the smallest steps lead to big results, and as long as I keep showing up and learning, I know I’m moving in the right direction.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As an artist, my work is centered around color, confidence, and self-expression. I design and create colorful, handmade jewelry that’s meant to feel joyful and empowering in everyday life. At craft shows, people often recognize the pineapples in my booth before they even get to it, and I’ve even been referred to as “the Pineapple Lady.” Over time, the pineapples have become a recognizable part of my creative identity.
That visual presence is very intentional. When I came up with the name Pretty Pineapple Bead, I chose the pineapple because it’s a symbol of welcome. I want my booth and my brand to feel warm and inviting. It’s a space where women feel confident and beautiful while expressing themselves. That’s something I often share with people when they visit my booth, and it’s a message that guides how I show up as an artist.
I specialize in beaded jewelry with bold, playful color combinations and thoughtful design. Color is a huge part of my creative process, not just for how it looks, but for how it makes people feel. My goal is to create pieces that help women feel more like themselves, whether that means standing out, feeling put together, or simply adding a little brightness to their day.
What I’m most proud of is building a brand experience that people connect with and remember. From the pineapple-filled booth to the jewelry itself, everything is created with intention and heart. What truly sets my work apart is that everything I create comes back to empowering confidence, one bead at a time.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My biggest piece of advice is to let yourself be a beginner and give yourself permission to learn as you go. You don’t need to have everything figured out before you start. Most of what I’ve learned came from trying things, making mistakes, and then asking myself, “What can I learn from this?” and “How can I do this better next time?”
I also wish I had known earlier that progress doesn’t have to be fast or flashy to matter. Small, consistent steps really do add up over time. It’s easy to compare yourself to people who seem farther along, but everyone’s journey looks different, and growth isn’t linear.
Lastly, build something that feels aligned with who you are, not just what you think you should be doing. When your business reflects your values and creativity, it becomes much easier to stay motivated through the ups and downs. Even the smallest steps will lead to big results. The most important thing is to keep going.
