Today we’d like to introduce you to Janice Kalien.
Hi Janice, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
During covid I was pregnant and the restaurant I worked for closed. I had a couple of cleaning clients but due to a rare pregnancy illness, I could not work. I had a good friend with three children who had been laid off. I asked her if she could clean for my clients until I was well. Unfortuntly when my daughter was just five months old, we found a rare brain tumor growing on my pituitary gland. The surgery took twelve hours and the recovery has been very difficult. However, being able to work from my hospital bed or sick at home has been a godsend. I could not work a regular full time job with my current remaining health issues post surgery. This company helps provide for my two children and this is priceless to me. All of this lead to the creation of Janice Marie’s Cleaning Services and later as I healed, Reiki Practice MN. My healing and desire to help others as I healed, lead me to get certified in Reiki and I have helped many individuals in their personal healing. My cleaning company now has six staff and about fifty clients!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Finding dependable staff has been very challenging. There are not a lot of people who enjoy cleaning houses. This lead me to pay well above minimum and I am always available for the staff. I have now had the same team for a year or more.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We specialize in both residential and commercial cleanings. I pay fair wages and we are insured and bonded. I personally train all of the staff to keep things consistent. We also have our clients look things over at the end if they would like, to be sure they are satisfied with their cleaning.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I have read several books but a lot of what I learned was learning as the company grew and/or issues arose.
