Meet Jen Mackori Moore of B’s Simple Joys

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jen Mackori Moore.

Hi Jen, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Baking has always been more than just a hobby for me—it’s a family tradition. From the very first batch of cookies I made alongside my dad, I fell in love with the magic that happens in the kitchen. The smell of fresh sourdough, the joy of pulling warm cookies out of the oven, the way baked goods bring people together—it’s all at the heart of what I do.

Today, I’m proud to share that passion with you. My sourdough breads are crafted with care, patience, and a love for simple, wholesome ingredients. My cookies are baked fresh, each one a little taste of comfort. And beyond that, I’m always creating “so much more” to surprise and delight—because baking is all about joy, creativity, and connection.

Every bite tells a story, and I’m so glad you’re part of mine.

At B’s Simple Joys, I believe that the best moments in life are often the simplest ones. Nestled in the heart of Savage, MN, my cottage bakery is dedicated to bringing you delicious, handmade treats that bring comfort and joy to your day.

Every item I bake is made from scratch, with the finest ingredients and a lot of care. My goal is simple – to share the joy of home-baked goodness with you, one bite at a time.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When starting any company there are always bumps in the road. For me personally having a cottage bakery out of my home, it’s been tricky to gauge what to bake as I’m never sure who will stop by for my porch bakery.
Also, living in Minnesota has had its challenges, such as the weather & customer traffic; it drastically reduced foot traffic to my porch bakery the minute it got cold.
Customers are less likely to stop spontaneously when it’s cold, snowy, or icy. Storms can make me cancel my porch bakery with short notice. Also condensation issues happen when moving baked goods from warm to cold environments.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about B’s Simple Joys ?
My business is a small, Minnesota-based cottage sourdough bakery. Everything I make is handcrafted in small batches, allowing me to focus on quality over quantity and ensure each loaf and baked good reflects the care that goes into it.

At the heart of my bakery are my baked goods—thoughtfully crafted sourdough breads and naturally leavened treats made to highlight flavor, texture, and quality ingredients. My signature sourdough loaves are long-fermented and baked in small batches, resulting in a crisp, deeply caramelized crust and a soft, flavorful interior. Each loaf reflects the natural variation of sourdough, making every bake unique while maintaining a consistent standard my customers trust.
In addition to my breads, I offer a rotating selection of sourdough-based baked goods, including pastries, rolls, cookies and seasonal specialties. These items are designed to showcase the versatility of sourdough beyond the loaf—bringing depth of flavor to both sweet and savory bakes. I focus on balanced sweetness, rich texture, and familiar comfort, allowing the natural fermentation to enhance rather than overpower each recipe

What sets me apart is my sourdough is fermented over multiple days, never rushed, and baked to highlight the natural character of the grain and starter. I focus on classic, comforting flavors alongside seasonal offerings, creating products that feel both familiar and special.

Brand-wise, I am most proud of the trust I’ve built with my customers. I want my bread and baked goods to feel like something you can build a meal around, bring to a gathering, or make part of your weekly routine.
I want readers to know that when they purchase from my bakery, they’re supporting a local, home-grown business that values tradition, quality, and connection. My offerings are made to be enjoyed, shared, and remembered—and I am proud to be a small part of people’s everyday tables and special moments alike.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
Customers can work with me by placing preorders, purchasing from my weekly menus, or supporting me at local markets and pop-ups. Preorders and consistent support help me plan more efficiently and reduce food waste, allowing me to continue offering high-quality sourdough products.
Community members can support me by sharing my bakery with friends and family, following and engaging with me on social media, and leaving reviews after purchases. Word-of-mouth support is especially meaningful to my small cottage bakeryand plays a huge role in my growth.

I am always grateful for opportunities to participate in local events, fundraisers, and community initiatives. Supporting my bakery means supporting small-batch, local food and the people behind it. Every order, share, and kind word helps me continue doing what I love and serving my community with care.
