Community Highlights: Meet David Anderson of Anderson Business Law LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Anderson.

Hi David, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Moved to the Twin Cities for Law School at William Mitchell in St.Paul. Following a stint at the Legal Publishing Monopoly West Publishing while in law school, moved to private practice after graduation and a year-long term as a Judicial Law Clerk, assisting trial judges with trials, legal research and drafting orders and memoranda. That experience was perhaps as valuable as 2 years law school.
Then worked 5 years in a 6 person business and litigation law firm before establishing my own practice in 1989, which was the first virtual law practice in the State, with a very large cellular telephone and a digital pager. ( Those under 40 will have to Google that term.)
Representing primarily privately held businesses ( vs large publicly traded firms) i work in the areas of business law, commercial litigation and deals, mostly buying and selling businesses. Although I have represented clients in 10 states, sometimes appearing locally pro hac vice, my base is in Minnesota, and my meetings are usually either virtual or at my local private club.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
While every private business law practice has general ebbs and flows of business caseloads, I have been fortunate to have been managably busy for the last 3 decades, thanks to mutiple pipelines of legal referrals from past clients and other attorneys, as well as a robust strategy of business networking, for which I am well known.

As you know, we’re big fans of Anderson Business Law LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
While I practice as a solo legal professional, I regularly utilize outsourced legal talent, including former well-experienced attorneys and paralegals, as well as independent contractors such as couriers, process servers, and occasionally digital document management specialists. In this way I can scale my team, depending on the legal matter, while avoiding the burden of FT employees, with all of the financial weight that entails. I am know as a highly responsive and nimble legal advisor, who answers and returns phone calls and emails within a very short interval.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Orchestrating my life to include health, family and professional obligations to construct a balanced lifestyle which maximizes both responding to the needs of my clients, my family and friends, as well as political and social activities in which I participate.

Pricing:

  • Responding to needs of client, including flat fee and hourly rates.
  • Taking into consideration clients’ ability to fund legal matters.
  • Always seeking to provide more bang for the buck.
