Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with TellyGP of Minneapolis Minnesota

We recently had the chance to connect with TellyGP and have shared our conversation below.

Hi TellyGP, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
When you dream the way I do, it can be a refreshing experience each time. It allows you to wander without thinking about time, allowing you to collect and recollect moments and for the benefit of mental peace.

I uphold “rest” and I think within deep rest, we can all dream the way I feel is needed to emit a difference in life as it gives you something to give off. A unspoken force of energy you’ll carry even throughout life’s trials, it can be a calm escape and having the right control will make a difference. The goal is to live but also be at peace within I learned and believed throughout my life.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
TellyGP is a groovy artist who mixes harmony with hip hop rap, within sonic production- he is able to create that forever groovy vibe in the honor of his childhood friend who passed away. TellyGP grew up on Old School R&B, neo-soul, jazz, funk and hip hop as he creates that feeling that is forever classic, derived from not forcing you can listen and get some kind of benefit from the groovy sounds and vibes. Using his voice as an instrument in hopes the music is able to transcend and become worldwide, doing the work to touch the ears of the masses! representing “broken homez” (BHZ) which is felt worldwide, from being inspired to inspiring is the main mission of vision to accomplish. “I’m not saying I’ll change the world, but I guarantee I’ll spark the brain that will change the world” -Tupac Shakur.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
That I’m alone, I was subjected to circumstances and situations that were unforgettable as a kid, so my earliest days were immersed in that feeling. It wasn’t until I gained friends and found home stability later on for the time being, that I was able to venture out and find out more about myself.

I had to come to a realization I wasn’t the only one dealing with broken homes, broken spirits and that it didn’t discriminate neither and if you had a home, it can be problems happening in each household. My friends allowed me to open up, as they opened their doors- their families were all genuine and I found a lot of peace finding that type of love.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
My approach to making music I believe symbolizes the question in real time, once you hit play on a record it will take you in like you’ve chose to come on a adventure with me and hopefully take something from it as I give. Something that lives forever, something that makes me wanna live as I’m being grateful for a voice that is smooth and lowkey the sound that can still make it around.

I think it’s a testament and I rather testify to a higher power when it’s said and done so I feel it’s only right, it is something I truly care about. I love the feeling because it has allowed me to create a sound of therapy for myself, a listener and these are conversations I’m having that I may not be able to talk about but on track it means something more.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
My belief I’m forever committed to is following my God, with prayer, good health, it’s more life. A healthy life, a healthy mind, body and soul, not choosing to live programmed. The center of my commitment is to the higher power knowing how life can be for someone like myself and what I’ve faced alone. I’m only one person, so imagine a world full of believers and dreamers through trauma.

Grateful for the gifts I’ve had to craft and stick to a plan with, it really transcends and my inner child is always rooting for me once I put my mind to something. Once I create something classic and once I give, I know I’ll always smile inside and receive spiritual points for staying on Gods path and allowing the inner joys to be apart of it.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel the most at peace when I close my eyes, when I don’t try to control everything, when I let things go, when I lower expectations, when I accept the past for what it is, when I’m looking better, when someone randomly compliments me on the street, when I get another day, when my belly is full and bills are paid. I feel the most at peace when I fail then try again and succeed.

When I’m able to create something meaningful and revisit because sometimes you forget who you are in a world that depicts you a certain way. Just a simple fresh breath of air that God gives me allows me to feel at peace, a calm breeze with your hand out the window on a family road trip enjoying the moment. Those are examples where peace is felt most and of mind and I believe the more control you have of it, the better your life can be!
