An Inspired Chat with Danielle Nicole of Eastern South Dakota

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Danielle Nicole. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Danielle, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
In 2023, I stood at a crossroads. I had a job I loved, a stable income, and the comfort of predictability — but it also meant leaving my baby for daycare and ignoring a growing sense that I was being called to something different. Choosing to step into full-time self-employment felt scary. But it was a leap of faith and I fully trusted that if God was leading me towards raising my babies at home, then He would provide everything I needed. Not only did He do that, but He replaced my entire annual salary in bookings in a months time!

What many people don’t see is the quiet, faithful work that followed — the long nights, the disciplined systems, the prayers, and the willingness to build with integrity rather than fear. Over time, that leap grew into a six-figure business with a servant-hearted team, allowing me to create work I love while being present for my family.

I’m proud that I didn’t stay where it felt comfortable just because it felt secure. I trusted God’s plan over my own fear, and in doing so, I built a business — and a life — rooted in purpose, freedom, and faith. When the world screams to be loud and chasing success, I lean back and trust that God will send exactly what I need in that season of life to sustain me.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Danielle, a photographer, filmmaker, and educator devoted to telling stories that feel meaningful and lasting. My work centers on weddings, motherhood, and family, with a full-service approach that guides clients from the first planning steps all the way to heirloom albums and artwork designed to live in their homes for generations.

What makes my brand unique is its heart for both excellence and intention. I believe images should be more than digital files — they should be felt, shared, and returned to over time. My work blends playful, guided posing with honest moments, all within an experience that is deeply personal, faith-rooted, and thoughtfully curated. I’m an extremely sentimental person, so creating generational keepsakes for my clients was something I didn’t realize I needed until my business coach introduced me to full service in fall of 2024.

Alongside my client work, I mentor and coach photographers who are seeking clarity, sustainability, and purpose in their businesses. I’m especially passionate about helping creative mothers build luxury brands that support both their artistry and their family life.

Outside of work, you’ll often find me in the garden, baking sourdough, or soaking up the everyday moments of raising my babies. I believe the greatest work we will ever do often happens within the walls of our homes — and everything I build, both personally and professionally, is designed to honor that truth.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
One of the moments that really shaped how I see the world was hiking Grinnell Glacier on the Highland Trail in Montana. We started at 6 a.m., surrounded by the crisp mountain air, and watched the sunrise light the peaks. The beauty was breathtaking — but by the last mile to the glacier, altitude had me stopping with every single step just to catch my breath. My legs were on fire, and I honestly didn’t know how I’d make it through the remaining four miles of the 16-mile hike.

The cliff section was terrifying: a narrow two-foot path with a rock wall on one side and a sheer drop on the other. The wind ripped through my friend and I so violently we had to crouch to avoid being swept away. That night, sleeping in a yurt tent at the base of the mountain, it dropped to 20 degrees, and I had to climb out of my sleeping bag to unscrew a frozen propane tank just to stay warm. Never again, I told myself, especially when it took 3 days to be able to walk again from stiff muscles.

That hike taught me about perspective, endurance, and the value of showing up even when it feels impossible. In business — and in motherhood — there are days that feel like running a 16-mile hike at altitude with no rest: I’m juggling multiple businesses from home with two babies under three, barely able to open my laptop. Other days, though, everything clicks and I feel lit on fire to create, lead, and serve with purpose. The lesson: we persevere, we trust the process, and we keep moving, one breath at a time, even when the climb feels impossible.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
All my life, I often felt excluded by groups and peers my age. I was always a few steps ahead, chasing something purposeful in a world that seemed to scream, “Just settle.” For a long time, that made me feel alone. But in college, I started using it as power when I finally embraced that being different wasn’t a flaw — it was my strength. All my life, I often felt excluded by groups and peers. I was always a few steps ahead, chasing something purposeful in a world that seemed to scream, “Just settle.” For a long time, that made me feel alone. I didn’t want to party or have to have an alcoholic beverage in my hand in order to “be cool” or feel included. I detested shallow relationships and conversations because it feels like a waste of precious time–what I really desired were relationships that allowed me to look outside of myself and challenge me to expand my beliefs and “whys”.

I believe God designed each of us for a specific and divine purpose. Why would we want to be like everyone else? I’m not here to fit in — I’m here to make it to Heaven and to bring others with me along the way. That realization changed everything. Instead of trying to conform, I began paving my own path — building a life and business aligned with my values, one that seeks to inspire others to do the same. My differences became my compass, my creativity, and my fuel, and they continue to shape the work I do every day.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies my industry tells itself is that we can “have it all.” As a young mom and wife, I learned the hard way that trying to do it all at once can cost you everything that matters — your peace, your health, your family, even your joy. There were days I felt like I was drowning, trying to keep every ball in the air, and it broke me in ways I didn’t expect.

The truth I’ve come to embrace is that you can’t have it all in every season — but you can experience it all over time. There are seasons for building, for creating, for stretching into your purpose, and there are seasons for slowing down, for breathing, and for simply being present with the people you love most. Learning to honor those seasons, instead of fighting them, has been one of the most freeing and transformative lessons of my life.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What will you regret not doing?
Every time I reflect on my life, I catch myself thinking–Man, did I miss out?

I’ve always been in a rush — chasing the next chapter, striving to achieve more, to maximize every experience, to squeeze the most out of life. And yet, when I look back, what I truly feel I missed wasn’t opportunity or accomplishment — it was connection.

I missed the quiet moments of being fully present with the people around me, the conversations and laughter and the simple joy of soaking it all in. I missed sitting in a season and letting it wash over me. That’s what I don’t want to miss going forward: the richness of real, unhurried connection, the sacredness of ordinary life, and the fullness of each moment — not just the milestones, but the pauses in between.
