Community Highlights: Meet Nicole of Access Designs LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
For over 20 years, I worked in hospitality event management, where I loved collaborating with clients and seeing events come to life, from concept to production. During this time, I also tinkered with building websites as a hobby. When COVID hit, it gave me the perfect opportunity to make a career shift. I decided to focus on web design, bringing me back to that passion for working with clients and seeing something evolve from an idea to a fully live website.

As I dove deeper into web design, I quickly realized the significant gap in digital accessibility. As someone with firsthand experience navigating digital spaces with low vision, I knew there was a better way to make websites more inclusive. This led me to focus my business, Access Designs LLC, on ensuring that websites were accessible to all users. Today, my mission is to educate and empower small businesses to create websites that not only meet accessibility guidelines but also foster a more inclusive digital world.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. There were several struggles along the way but I’d say the biggest was once being told by a mentor’s colleague that “no one cares about accessibility, and you’re not going to succeed in that industry.” He meant well and was just sharing his experience being in circles of business owners. It was disheartening, but not defeating to hear that.

As you know, we’re big fans of Access Designs LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We offer everything from web design for new entrepreneurs, redesigns of outdated websites, and full digital content accessibility audit and remediation services.

What sets us apart is our deep commitment to accessibility, not just as a legal requirement but as a core value of building better online experiences for all. We’re unique because we combine high-quality web design with a focus on inclusivity, ensuring that no one gets left behind, whether they have visual impairments, hearing loss, or mobility challenges.

I’m most proud of the positive feedback we receive from clients who appreciate our collaborative approach and dedication to accessibility. It’s rewarding to know that we’re making a real difference in helping businesses reach a wider audience and comply with important accessibility standards.

What I want readers to know about Access Designs LLC is that we’re here to support small businesses in creating websites that don’t just look great but also serve everyone. Our focus on clear communication, understanding each client’s needs, and putting accessibility at the forefront sets us apart, making sure all users can access the content and services that our clients offer.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
There have been several changes in the guidelines and laws surrounding digital content over the past few years, both in the states and abroad. These changes have brought more awareness to the importance of ensuring a businesses online presence is accessible to everyone, so the need for experts in the industry is growing.

Pricing:

  • It is important to share that the cost for digital accessibility services varies based on many factors, BUT it is likely not as expensive as people assume, AND there are tax credits available to many businesses for getting these services done.
