Today we’d like to introduce you to Mia Vidmar.
Hi Mia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Mia grew up in Minnesota and went to Minnetonka High School in a suburb of the Twin Cities. After high school, she went to college at UW-La Crosse and got her bachelors degree in biology. While there, she got pretty sick with a stomach ulcer and couldn’t seem to find a western doctor that could help. Things just seemed to be getting worse. So, she did her research and found a local acupuncturist/herbalist. Well, that did the trick pretty quick and her path was changed forever. So, she graduated, moved home, and enrolled at Northwestern Health Sciences University to get her masters degree in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. Mia finished her Eastern and Western national board exams to become a diplomate of the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in the fall of 2018. Shortly after, she graduated summa cum laude from her Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine masters program at Northwestern Health Sciences University in December 2018 and received her acupuncture license through the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice in February 2019. Mia couldn’t wait to start healing the world, so she opened her practice in April 2019.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I started working for someone else right after I got licensed, but that only lasted a couple months as it proved to be a toxic work environment. The universe chose a different path for me QUICKLY and I got a call the day after I left to come tour what has now come to be known as Healing Haven Acupuncture. I worked 3 jobs in my first year to get my footing, keep my bills paid, and learn the ropes of the business side of things. Business owner mode is much different than acupuncturist mode! Over the past 7 years I have since come to love wearing the many hats that a small business owner has to wear, as well as being a medical provider.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What most people don’t know is that for anything you can take a pill for in Western medicine, you can use acupuncture instead or in conjunction with Western medical treatments!
Mia Vidmar MCM, L.Ac, Dipl.Ac. is a masters level licensed acupuncturist who specializes in the women’s health field, focusing on hormonal concerns such as endometriosis, PCOS, PMS, infertility, pregnancy and menopause, as well as other internal concerns regarding sleep, digestion, and anxiety.
For fun, she also likes to work with skin care— hello, microneedling, Gua Sha Facials & cosmetic acupuncture! Mia likes to work with multiple Traditional Chinese Medicine modalities as seen fit for each person, such as acupuncture and cupping, as well as natural remedies, such as Chinese herbal therapy.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory is holding an alligator in Naples, Florida during a trip to visit my grandparents! I was probably about 9 years old, and we did an airboat tour and got to hold a few small ones. Very thrilling experience as a child!
