Today we’d like to introduce you to Wendy Rios.
Hi Wendy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
From a young age, I learned that a home is more than just walls and a roof—it’s the foundation of a family, a life, and a sense of security.
My family came from Mexico carrying a dream many immigrant families share: to build something of their own. For a time, they did. My parents became landlords, and I watched firsthand the comfort and stability that homeownership brings. Real estate was part of my foundation long before I considered it as a career.
But life doesn’t always follow the plan you build. We had to start over completely, renting a small unit inside someone else’s home. It was cramped and uncertain, and it made clear just how different it feels to have a place you can truly call your own. Experiencing this growing up made me realize the difference a home can make—and it’s that understanding that inspires the work I do today.
Real estate found me long before I stepped into it professionally in 2022. I didn’t choose it just for a career; I chose it because I know what is at stake when a family decides to buy a home. I’ve lived both the impact of having a home and the feeling of not having one. That memory has never left me—and it’s the reason I show up every single day with everything I have.
Today, I focus on helping first-time homebuyers, especially within my community. So many people grow up believing homeownership is out of reach, particularly in Spanish-speaking communities, but I’ve seen firsthand that it’s more attainable than people think. Being bilingual allows me to connect, educate, and support clients in a way that makes them feel confident throughout the process.
For me, this work is personal. My goal isn’t just to close deals—it’s to make a difference, even if it’s small, because I know that helping someone buy a home can truly change their life. I once needed someone to believe that homeownership was possible for my family. Now, I get to be that person for others—and that is everything to me.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road hasn’t been smooth — but it has been worth it. Every single step.
I started my real estate journey during a challenging time: COVID. I was finishing college while pregnant, learning a brand-new industry, and navigating a world where in-person networking and traditional training opportunities were limited.
At the same time, I was becoming a mom. And if you know, you know — there is no real way to prepare for the juggling act of building a business while also showing up fully for a newborn. Every minute away from her felt heavy with guilt, and I often questioned whether I was doing enough—both as a mom and as a professional. I even brought her to the office with me sometimes, trying to balance it all while keeping my business moving forward.
Through the exhaustion, the long nights, and the constant balancing act, I discovered resilience I didn’t always know I had. I learned to give myself grace, to keep going even when it felt impossible, and to trust that showing up consistently — even imperfectly — would pay off. Those early challenges shaped the way I work with clients today, with empathy, patience, and determination.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’ve been a licensed real estate agent since 2022, serving first-time homebuyers across the Twin Cities and East Metro area. As a bilingual, Spanish-speaking agent, I proudly serve families of all backgrounds —
What sets me apart is both personal and professional. My background in Legal Studies with a paralegal certificate gives me a deeper understanding of contracts, negotiations, and the fine print that protects my clients. Combined with my own family’s journey of losing everything and starting over — I don’t just understand the process, I understand what’s truly at stake.
I truly believe everyone deserves a place to call their own, and it’s my mission to make that dream a reality by providing guidance, support, and expertise throughout your entire journey.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Most people are surprised to learn that before real estate, I was on a completely different path — I have a degree in Legal Studies with a paralegal certificate and a minor in Psychology. At one point, I had every intention of becoming an attorney.
Life had other plans. And honestly? I think it led me exactly where I was supposed to be.
Those years of study show up in my work every single day. Understanding contracts, navigating negotiations, knowing how to read the fine print so my clients don’t have to — that foundation gives me an edge that most agents don’t have. And the psychology background? That’s what helps me truly listen, understand what families are feeling beneath the surface, and guide them through a process that is as emotional as it is financial.
I never ended up in a courtroom — but I still fight for my clients every single day. I just traded the briefcase for a set of keys — and I’ve never looked back.
