Today we’d like to introduce you to Cody Laberda.
Cody, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m happy to share more via talking as opposed to writing it all out. I’ve taking music business seriously since about 2018 or so. I dove deeper once the pandemic hit and we were all inside/at home. I was working with a music production school at the time as a TA and designer. After completing all their courses I wanted to dive deeper into my craft and found other resources online and have been pushing ever since.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
They say “a smooth sea never made a skilled sailor.” I always liked the other saying as well which was “A knight in shining armor has never had his metal tested.” In this case maybe we can say Mental instead of metal as I have never been a sailor or knight. The analogy is there though and it’s quite fitting as this is not an easy road nor is the “ending” in sight. I’m not sure I will ever “get there” because I live this everyday and I live the work and the reward day in and day out.
I would say the biggest struggles have been financially related as well as timing related. AT this point in time it’s never been easier to go make music with all the tutorials, resources, and support. Yet it’s never been harder to truly break through or “succeed” Then again this comes back to the reward and success component. I am successful and I live the reward everyday because I can go make tunes and do what I love which is great. I just wish I could commit more to it and be financially independent, which to some people that may be their definition of success. It’s also extremely competitive with hoe many people do it and now we throw in the component of AI making music.
I didn’t get into making music to make money or for the money but for the love. Then again why not monetize our passions and habits? I’d rather make money doing what I love instead of a 9 to 5.
I’m happy to dive more into this in person/on a call.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am Melon Farmer, an artist, a producer, a DJ, a designer, an experience.
Here is a bio I made for myself:
I take immense pride in my ability to curate seamless mixes that transcend genres. I strive to take the audience on a dynamic journey through sound. Whether it’s blending my own original tracks, incorporating live instruments, or remixing my favorite tunes into my sets, I am always finding innovative ways to captivate and bring my audience on a journey. I like to think of my sets as rollercoasters, the ride simply cannot always be going up or going down, nor can it be overly constant. I am committed to delivering nothing short of excellence in every aspect of my career. My goal is not only to entertain but also to leave an everlasting impact on everyone who experiences my art with me. With a dedication to continuous growth and a passion for connecting with audiences, musicians, DJs, artists, and creatives, I look forward to continuing my journey as an artist and DJ while creating magical moments on dance floors around the world.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
AT some point in the past or present everyone I have come into contact with has had some influence on me in my project whether they love it, hate it, or don’t give a **** about it. Some of my biggest help and inspiration has been through my producer community that I have helped start and build. This is a small group of producers which I host monthly at home to go over projects and share/give feedback on tunes we make.
I also need to give a shout out to my mentor Morgan Then of Slumberjack. He’s part of a duo from Australia and we met online years ago. I’ve learned more from him 1 on 1 than I have my entire life through classes/courses online and in person.
