Conversations with Sarah Norris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Norris.

Sarah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up as an athletic tom”girl”, spending 16 years in gymnastics where I fell in love with discipline, competition, and constantly pushing myself to grow while being on stage. At the same time, I was always drawn to hair and makeup—it became my creative outlet and a way to connect with people. I’ve always been fascinated by personalities and the way confidence shows up differently in everyone, which naturally pulled me deeper into this industry.

Over time, that creative pull became something I couldn’t ignore. I got behind the chair and have spent 17 years building my skills, learning people, and really understanding how to bring out someone’s confidence—not just their look. What started as a passion turned into something much bigger when I launched my own brand.

Now, I specialize in bridal, events, and fashion-focused work, and I thrive in high-energy environments like weddings and shows. For me, it’s about more than just hair and makeup—it’s about creating an experience, a feeling, and a moment where someone truly sees themselves at their best while having a time restriction as the competition as well as feeling like I’m on stage to perform.
carrying that athlete mindset of being on stage: show up, stay driven, keep evolving. Now, I get to channel it into artistry, connection, and building something that’s completely my own.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I didn’t get into the industry because I love to crunch numbers. Ha…

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a bridal and event hair and makeup artist based in the Twin Cities, and I specialize in creating elevated, personalized looks that photograph beautifully and last all day. My work ranges from soft, effortless bridal to high-impact fashion and editorial styling, and I also love incorporating custom elements like hair pieces or unique design details to bring a full vision to life.

What I’m really known for is my ability to read people. I take the time to understand not just how someone wants to look, but how they want to feel. That connection allows me to create something that feels authentic to them, while still pushing the look in a way that feels fresh and elevated. I bring a calm but confident energy into every space—whether it’s a wedding morning or backstage at a show—and that presence is just as important as the final result.

What I’m most proud of is building my brand on my own and stepping into larger opportunities in the fashion and bridal space. Being able to work on shows, get published, and connect with high-level creatives has been a huge milestone for me, especially knowing I’ve built it through consistency, relationships, and staying true to my style.

What sets me apart is the combination of technical skill, creativity, and energy. I don’t just show up to do hair and makeup—I create an experience. I can take the lead when needed, collaborate with a team, and adapt to any environment while still delivering something that stands out. I’m always looking to evolve, push boundaries, and bring something unexpected to every look I create.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love most about the Twin Cities is the community and the creativity. There’s such a strong network of artists, small business owners, and entrepreneurs who genuinely support each other. It feels like a place where you can build something meaningful and still have people in your corner. I also love the balance—you get the energy of a city, but you’re never far from nature, which keeps me grounded and inspired
One thing I’ve noticed is that hair and makeup can sometimes be treated as an afterthought in the overall design process. But in reality, it’s such a powerful part of bringing a full vision to life. I see a lot of opportunity in that—when all elements are considered equally, the final result is so much more impactful. I love being part of shifting that mindset and showing how transformative those details can be
