Today we’d like to introduce you to Carl Melichar.
Hi Carl, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have a historical, old farm with four museums on it. One museum is on waterfowl artwork and history, one building is used for Alaska information, photography and pictures. I have a historical log cabin with a lot of history and western art work in it. I also have a historical barn from 1914 with a lot of history to it. I also have a monarch butterfly sanctuary with paths.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being an entrepreneur as an artist, from doing outside shows, the MN Renaissance Festival, the MN State Fair, and being self-published has been a real challenge with maintaining publishing rights and keeping up with the banker. It has been a trial, but it’s been all good. I’m trying to write a book about helping other artists and others who want to pursue the arts. I have a lot of information to share.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Growing up on the farm, I loved birds and birdwatching. As time went along I’ve had 25 trips to Alaska. I’ve been an avid photographer and film maker. My experiences in the wild have made me who I am.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I’ve been an entrepreneur my whole life. I’ve kept full control of my artwork and designs. I now have artwork on a world market scale. I’ve done national shows, such as Pheasants Forever and Ducks Unlimited, along with numerous other sportsman’s shows. When it comes to the arts, I’ve seen it all. The most recent risk/adventure I’ve taken on was to get a booth at the ASD Market Week show in Las Vegas despite the high cost.
