Hidden Gems: Meet Leanne Guba of Hometown Hobby & Crafts LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leanne Guba.

Hi Leanne, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My husband and I started our store after the former craft store closed in 2015. We started with an empty building and started by putting up shelving units and other fixtures. We researched suppliers for items we were interested in carrying. Some items were the same as the former store, but we also explored new offerings as well. Over the years, we’ve spent a lot of time researching and going to market to find new trends, bring in unique items and try to keep things interesting.
.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We have experienced a lot of challenges over the years including Covid, online shopping, supply chain & delivery issues and the loss of several major suppliers who have closed for various reasons. Being in a smaller community means trying to keep things fresh and new for the customers.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a small town store with lots to offer in both arts and crafts, and hobby. Art supplies, Scrapbooking, Sewing, yarn, some baking supplies along with kids crafts, and puzzles. Lots of puzzles. Just about any size and shape you can think of. We carry a large selection of fabric wildlife panels featuring local wildlife as well as our very popular National Parks fabrics. Unique from other craft stores we carry rockets, many types of models both plastic and wood, and a large variety of games – common and uncommon for all ages and interests. In the back of our store we have a section that offers Magic the Gathering & D&D supplies and gaming sessions and Pokemon. Lots of Pokemon. Unfortunately due to the huge demand of Pokemon recently we don’t always have cards in stock but we do have lots of other related merchandise.

What are your plans for the future?
The last year has seen a lot of big changes in store. With the closing of Joanne Fabric stores last year we expanded our fabric offerings, changed up many fixtures and are currently in the process of bring in new yarn lines. As always we are looking for new lines to bring in to keep things interesting.
