Today we’d like to introduce you to Colleen Hoeft.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Colleen and I’ve struggled in the past with alcohol and childhood trauma. God continues to help me to find healing for my hurts, hangups and habits through Celebrate Recovery.
Celebrate Recovery at South Troy began in October of 2022. We meet every Sunday night to find healing and to celebrate recovery over our ‘hurts, hang-ups and habits.’ Celebrate Recover is a Bible based 12 Step program based on the principles found in the Bible, specifically in the Beatitudes.
We meet at 5pm and begin the night in fellowship with a meal. At 5:35 we begin the large group meeting of worship and either a lesson or testimony. at 6:30 we break into gender specific open share groups. We finish up at approximately 7pm.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Recovery is never easy, but it is always worth it. We are here to help and to encourage those on their road to recovery. There have been challenges with starting and maintaining our Celebrate Recovery group too. We depend on volunteers to bring in meals as well serve in other capacities each Sunday night. Sometimes the leadership ends up cooking for weeks in a row- but overall God has provided all that we have needed- such an exciting journey!!!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The purpose of Celebrate Recovery is to encourage men and women to find fellowship and celebrate God’s healing power in our lives, as we work our way along the road to recovery, for whatever it is we struggle with.
We open the door by sharing our experience, strength and hope with one another. By working the 12 steps and the 9 principles based on Scriptures and Beatitudes we offer participants a clean path of salvation and discipleship; bringing hope, freedom, sobriety, healing and the opportunity to give back one day at a time.
The meetings start with some food, then awesome worship, followed by a large group meeting that is either a lesson or testimony and then gender and specific small groups.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Come early to meet people and get to know them. That will be your best time to meet people and ask around for a mentor or a sponsor.
