Today we’d like to introduce you to Holly Mosher.
Hi Holly, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Gedney grew up with family that had a flower farm while also spending every summer picking blueberries with his dad, sister, and grandmother.
So when the previous owners of this amazing farm were called into the mission field and prayerfully decided to put it up for sale, we felt this was too good to be true! Flowers AND blueberries at the same time?!
We met them for about five minutes touring the property and both parties knew it had been a blessed meeting!
We never have imagined this is where we would be led. Life is so whimsical that way.
It has been difficult learning about our soil, what each type of flower likes, pruning and fertilizing berries, all while raising a young family, but it has been so worth it.
The goal for this farm is to be a blessing to everyone that cuts a flower, eats an in-season blueberry, strolls through the sunflowers, or takes a memorable photo in our fields!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Praying for rain, last minute frosts, and even some flower diseases have made every day a new challenge! Blueberries also do not love the soil in Minnesota. We have to amend the pH to keep it to their liking which takes some extra time each year. Keeping a good attitude, while chipping away each day through May and June really pays off when the fields fill out in July and it is just awe inspiring to look out at the beauty that surrounds us.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We both met as RNs working for Mayo Clinic in Rochester where Gedney still works full time while we both run this farm through the summer and fall. We have considered branching out into hosting weddings on the property, doing a CSA delivery service, and wholesaling flowers as a full time job!
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
We had never been gardeners or farmers before purchasing this amazing farm!
