Hidden Gems: Meet Nichole Grundner of The Cozy Ledger

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nichole Grundner.

Nichole, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I didn’t start out with a plan to build a bookkeeping business. It really came from a moment where I had to figure things out.

When my position with a previous employer was dissolved, I found myself in a place of needing to find something—anything—to move forward. I was applying for jobs, trying to figure out my next step, and one day while I was watching TV, an ad came on for a bookkeeping challenge. Something about it caught my attention, and I remember thinking, “I could do that.”

What started as curiosity quickly turned into something more. I realized this was a way I could provide a real service to business owners—something that not only supports their business, but supports them as a person. I’ve always been someone who wants to see others succeed and genuinely celebrate that success with them, and bookkeeping became a way to do that.

Over time, it became about more than just the numbers. It became about helping bring clarity to things that feel confusing, creating a sense of calm where things have felt chaotic and unmanageable, and giving business owners confidence in an area that often makes them question themselves.

That’s how The Cozy Ledger came to be. It wasn’t something I had mapped out years in advance—it was something that grew from a challenging moment into a business rooted in support, clarity, and care for the people I work with.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road.

I started The Cozy Ledger in a season where I was figuring things out in real time, so there was a lot of trial and error, second-guessing, and learning as I went. You’re not just doing the work – you’re building the business, setting boundaries, and finding your footing all at the same time.

There have been moments where I’ve had to stand firm in how I do things, even when it would’ve been easier to bend or overextend. That’s not always comfortable, but it’s part of building something that actually lasts.

Looking back, those challenges are what have helped to build my confidence. They forced me to trust myself, get clear on how I want to work, and show up more grounded for my clients.

It hasn’t been easy – but it’s all been very much worth it.

We’ve been impressed with The Cozy Ledger, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Cozy Ledger is a bookkeeping business built around the idea that the financial side of your business shouldn’t feel overwhelming, confusing, or something you avoid.

I primarily work with small business owners, especially in the salon and service space, who are juggling a lot and often feel behind or unsure when it comes to their numbers. My role is to bring structure and clarity to that side of their business so they can make decisions with more confidence.

What sets The Cozy Ledger apart is my approach. I don’t believe is pressure, shame, or making people feel like they should already have everything all figured out. I meet people where they are and help them move forward in a way that feels manageable. I always tell people, “Everyone has to start somewhere.”

It’s not just about creating clean books – it’s about creating a sense of calm around their numbers. Helping someone go from feeling overwhelmed to feeling in control is a big part of the work that I do.

I’m most proud that The Cozy Ledger truly reflects how I show up for my clients. It’s warm, calm, and organized, but also supportive and real. Clients know they’re not just getting a service; they’re also getting someone who cares about their business and truly wants to see them succeed.

What I want readers to know is that bookkeeping doesn’t have to feel intimidating. With the right support, it can actually become something that helps you feel more confident and grounded in your business.

What’s next?
Looking ahead, my focus in on continuing to grow The Cozy Ledger in a way that is both sustainable and aligned with how I want to serve my clients.

Scaling is important, but not at the expense of the personal connection that my clients have come to rely on. That level of support and trust is a big part of what makes this business what it is, and I’m very intentional about protecting that as I grow.

I’m working toward building out systems and support behind the scenes that allow me to expand while still maintaining that same level of care, consistency, and communication.

Long-term, I want The Cozy Ledger to continue being a place where business owners feel supported, understood, and confident in their numbers; no matter how much their business grows.
