Hidden Gems: Meet Ka Bao Jennrich of Jennrich Law LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ka Bao Jennrich.

Hi Ka Bao, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been drawn to service and advocacy, which is what ultimately led me to law. Before starting Jennrich Law, I worked in several roles that shaped how I approach helping people today: as a public defender, teacher, firefighter, and Chair of the North Branch Planning Commission. Each role taught me how important it is to listen well, stay calm under pressure, and stand beside people during some of the hardest moments in their lives.

I earned my law degree with honors from the University of St. Thomas School of Law, where I worked in the Criminal and Juvenile Defense Clinic and helped on a case that reached the Minnesota Supreme Court during a major shift in juvenile sentencing law in Minnesota. That experience significantly reinforced my passion for advocacy and access to justice.

Outside of law, I also spent years helping manage my family’s business and working in business operations, accounting, and HR for a construction-demolition company. During COVID, I helped navigate PPP loans, compliance issues, and day-to-day operations during a really uncertain time. That gave me a practical understanding of the challenges small business owners and working families face beyond just the legal side.

Starting Jennrich Law felt like the natural next step. I wanted to build a Christ-cnetered aw firm rooted in justice, redemption, grace, and service. Our faith shapes how we treat people: with dignity, compassion, honesty, and respect, especially when they are walking through difficult seasons of life. We also take on several pro bono cases every year, including orders for protection, divorces, and expungements, because we believe helping people in need is part of our calling.

Today, I represent clients across Minnesota in areas including criminal defense, business law, family law, estate planning, civil litigation, zoning issues, expungements, and firearm restorations. At the end of the day, I want clients to know they have someone in their corner who genuinely cares.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it definitely has not been a smooth road. Starting a law firm comes with a lot of risk and uncertainty, especially in the beginning. There are startup costs, overhead, and the reality that you do not always know what revenue will look like month to month when you are first building a practice. On top of that, finding the right employees and building a reputation people trust takes time.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Jennrich Law LLC?
Jennrich Law is a Minnesota-based Christian law firm focused on practical, solution-oriented representation. We handle criminal defense, family law, business law, estate planning, civil litigation, zoning issues, expungements, and firearm restorations.

What sets us apart is that we try to solve problems efficiently and realistically. Not every issue needs to turn into a years-long legal battle. We are mindful of cost, strategy, and the long-term impact litigation can have on families and businesses. If there is a practical resolution that protects our client’s interests without unnecessary conflict or expense, that is the route we will pursue.

At the same time, when litigation is necessary, we are fully prepared to advocate aggressively for our clients. We believe good legal representation means knowing when to negotiate, when to push forward, and when to fight.

Our background also gives us a broader perspective than many traditional firms. In addition to legal experience, I have worked in education, firefighting, local government, and business operations, including helping manage family businesses and navigating real-world business challenges during COVID. That experience helps us understand the practical side of the problems our clients are facing, not just the legal theory behind them.

As a Christian law firm, our faith shapes how we treat people. We believe in honesty, compassion, accountability, and service. We also take on pro bono cases each year because we believe legal help should still be available to people who are struggling or trying to rebuild their lives.

More than anything, I want people to know that Jennrich Law is approachable, straightforward, and genuinely client-focused. We want clients to feel heard, informed, and confident that their attorney is looking out for both their legal interests and their future.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happiest is my faith, my family, my dogs, and my community.

My faith is the foundation for everything I do. One passage that has always stayed close to me is Psalm 23. In both the good seasons and the difficult ones, it reminds me that God is steady, faithful, and present through all of it:

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul…” Psalm 23:1-6

My family is also at the center of my life. I could not have built this firm or pursued this path without my partner, Jim, who has been a constant source of strength and stability through every season. He is my best friend and the love of my life. My children, Michael, James, Mary, and Makynlee, are my greatest joy and keep me grounded and focused in the moment.

And of course, our dogs, Hazel and Pearl, bring a lot of happiness and chaos into our home in the best way possible, especially when you cannot find your shoes because Hazel ran off with it, or when you cannot sit down because Pearl keeps pawing you to pet her.

I also deeply value community. Whether it is volunteering, supporting scholarships, donating, mentoring students, or simply helping someone who needs guidance, giving back is important to me. I believe we all have a responsibility to serve others and leave our communities better than we found them.
