Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Ferguson.
Lisa, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I launched Ferguson Design Studio in March 2020, and by the fall of 2023, I was blessed to open our 2,500 sq. ft. showroom—a space that features everything a client needs for their home, from the ground up.
It is hard to say exactly where the story started, as life is quite a journey. I believe God has a plan for each of us, and trusting in His timing puts you exactly where you need to be. I grew up on a farm, working alongside my parents and four siblings. That life developed in me a strong sense of pride and humility; it taught me that while results aren’t always in our hands, we must give everything we have regardless. I was the child who asked a thousand questions and was up for trying anything—an attitude that turns out to be essential when running your own business.
My path eventually led me to a two-year carpentry degree. It satisfied my love for working hard outdoors and provided that great feeling of accomplishment that only comes from creating something physical. Working for multiple builders, I developed a deep love for homes—not just how they are built, but how they function and make you feel.
I carried that same drive with me back to college to obtain a teaching degree with a math specialty. During those years, I married my best friend and greatest supporter, Joe. His belief in me has been the backbone of my success. Throughout my teaching career, I continued to master home design through my own renovations. My favorite pastime—learning how people truly live in their spaces—made it clear that a career switch wasn’t just a want, it was a calling.
Inspired to show my young children what it looks like to follow your dreams; I took the leap and followed mine. Today, Ferguson Design Studio is the result of that leap of faith and a lifetime of learning.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Every client is unique, bringing their own set of visions, needs, and expectations to the table. Navigating these moving parts while keeping the project aligned is the most challenging—yet rewarding—aspect of my work. To me, a new project is like a complex puzzle where the client holds the pieces; my role is to gather those insights and assemble them into detailed custom plans and curated finishes that bring their ideal home to life.
