Today we’d like to introduce you to Baatarchuluun Nyamdechin.
Hi Baatarchuluun, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Choka and I am a designer, carpenter and intrapreneur – founder of Hammer Works llc. Hammer Works llc specialized in custom build-ins and fine carpentry. I do design my own build-ins – cabinets, shelving, storage units or anything homeowners wanted to make fit for their lifestyle or specific usage for their daily life. I started my career in 2006 as painter. I worked for a company as painter and paint houses. While I was painting new or old houses and commercial buildings i more interested to know about buildings and construction. So I went for school – architectural drafting at Minneapolis Community College. After two years of community college I went to College of Design at UofM for architecture, but ended up studied environmental design. I learned not only design building, parks or public outdoor spaces, I also learned a lot more about culture, community and how to define neighborhoods which It is still help me to read and define my customers very well. While I was in school I was still working for contractors, builders or individuals who are fixing and repairing homes that led me to get an idea of in investing properties. After my college years my wife and I started investing in old homes that were needed to fix, repair or remodel for a new home. During this time I practiced a lot on redesign floor plans, kitchen remodeling, cabinets, custom build-ins. I self learned about wood work, custom build-ins and cabinetry when I was improving and investing homes. While I was doing these home improvements I met and cooperated with master carpenters, builders, mechanical contractors, realtors and many more people who were doing something home improvement. I learned so much during this time from those people who helped and supported me. My first business was started in 2008 as New Hue llc. It was more focused on paint and handyman service. Then I started Hammer Works llc in 2019 as more focused on carpentry and home remodeling. However, I wanted to make my service more simpler and more specific which I’m more focused specialize my service in custom build-ins at this moment.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It seemed to me been a self employer or entrepreneur is daily challenge. Simply been an entrepreneur is be responsible for something and it is required to have maintained and monitored all the time. I don’t think there is a smooth way, its always challenge and struggle. Specially working with people and trying to figure out people, and managing people, because everyone different, everyone behave different and as I entrepreneur and responsible for the business I have to work with these people which it is my most struggle.
