Today we’d like to introduce you to Jack Miller.
Hi Jack, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Growing up as a child my father was a jeweler and seeing him create unique and different pieces always intrigued me. I always had interest in his work and helping him and that inspired me to learn more and try it myself. My father mentored me with my first few pieces. After is unexpected passing I took it upon myself to learn and do more. I spent hours taking classes learning more about different techniques, precious metals, gemstones, tools and perfecting my craftsmanship.
No two days are alike everyday and project is different whether it’s a repair job, resizing, cleaning, or creating a new piece my hands and mind are always doing something. I’m a one man shop I talk with my clients to understand their ideas, design the piece, source the stones and materials, create a mold, cast the piece in the metal and then clean, polish, set stones, then polish again. I love seeing a project from start to finish and creating something durable that someone will cherish and can last for generations.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road, some struggles along the way I’ve faced are being a young business owner and all that comes with owning your own business, finding my unique style, drawing, and some techniques. Some mistakes have costed me not just money but time and peace of mind as well. Over the years through lots of practice I’ve learned from my mistakes and have been able to create my own unique style, draw better, learn how to run a business, and master different types of techniques. I’ve learned the importance of being both gentle and patient.
As you know, we’re big fans of Jaksco. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Jaksco is custom handmade jewelry by me Jack Miller. I specialize in making and designing custom handmade jewelry, I also can repair, resize, repurpose and clean pieces. I’m known for working directly with my clients to deliver them one of a kind unique custom jewelry pieces designed and made by me. Something that sets me apart from others is that it’s just me I see projects through from start to finish and communicate directly with my clients throughout the process. I’m most proud that I am able to bring joy and happiness to my clients whether it is through creating a unique piece that is one of a kind or fixing something that is meaningful to a client.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
As a young jeweler I’ve learned that having the right mentors makes all the difference. Im incredibly grateful for my Grandmother, who first helped inspire my love for jewelry and craftsmanship and my good friend Travis in Oregon, who has shared his knowledge, guidance he has experienced along the way. Jewelry is a craft that takes years to master , and I wouldn’t be where I am today without the patience, support and lessons they’ve given. Their mentorship has not only shaped my skills as a jeweler but also the way I approach my work with clients.
