Meet Anna And Oscar Nevermann of Sisu

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna And Oscar Nevermann.

Hi Anna and Oscar, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
SISU has been part of the Plymouth community since 2012. I joined as a member in 2019 and quickly fell in love with both CrossFit and the incredible sense of community it created. At the same time, my husband, Oscar, was completing Physical Therapy school at the University of Minnesota.

In 2023, the previous owner approached us about the opportunity to purchase the Plymouth location. With Oscar newly graduated from PT school and eager to build his own private practice within a gym environment, it felt like the perfect fit. We officially took ownership in November 2024, and the experience has been incredibly rewarding.

Over the past year, the energy within the gym has continued to grow, and our classes are filled with life, encouragement, and connection. What truly sets SISU apart is our community. Members walk through our doors knowing they will leave feeling stronger physically, mentally, and socially.

Oscar also operates his Physical Therapy practice, Sisu Lōngevity, out of the gym, where he focuses on helping people increase performance and longevity. More recently, he launched AIM100, a program designed to promote longevity in the purpose of connecting generations and improve life satisfaction. This is a program Oscar has been designing for the last eight years with the purpose of helping his parents live better, longer. The pilot for the program launched three weeks ago and is going great so far.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has been somewhat smooth. Oscar was born raised in Sweden so learning about how to conduct a business in a foreign country is not always the easiest.
Bouncing between the three businesses of Gym, PT office and longevity studio it can get challenging keeping all the books in order. Luckily Oscar comes from a family of entrepreneurs and has systems to keep everything in order.

One struggle we both agree on is boundaries and compartmentalization. We run a community based organization and many of our friends are members. Being able to set boundaries for when it’s time for work and when it’s not has been tough. Work keeps creeping in to our private life which is hard when we are such a small organization.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Sisu?
We are a gym, PT and longevity clinic.

Oscar specializes in performance and longevity. He earned a DPT at University of Minnesota in 2024. Oscar is most known for his passion. He truly loves what he does and he carries that into every day work life wether it’s to help someone recovery from a season ending injury or help a senior reconnect to their community by increasing their Vo2max.

What sets Oscar apart is his multicultural background. Born and raised in Sweden, he came to play football at University of Wyoming in 2013. After finishing school he decided to play professionally in Germany for a year, playing running back for Frankfurt Galaxy in 2019. Then he went back to Sweden to study physiotherapy at the Karolinska institute before returning back to finish his Doctorate at the UofM.

What sets us a part from others is our belief in and quality over quantity.

We’re a small gym, no more than 250 people, and we want to keep it that way because if we grow too much than we cannot keep track of you. All gyms in our area hope you sign up for a membership and never show your face. We expect you to show up every day and we have systems to support you in it. Our members’ average attendance last year was 2.9 visits /week. On top of this we put on events outside the gym as well. Run clubs, boat days, Christmas parties, friendly competitions and lots and lots of birthday celebrations. When you join Sisu in Plymouth you don’t just get access to the facilities. You get access to the whole experience of changing your life around and to become a healthier version of yourself.

What we are the most proud of in the business is our core value of people over profit. We believe firmly that Sisu is built off the long term relationships created within our walls. To care more about our profits that our people ruins that relationship. Therefore we will always choosen the former when given an opportunity.
Oscar has since he took over the business delivered more than 250h of free Physical therapy along with more than 100 months of free gym memberships for members going through transition periods in their lives.

How do you define success?
When our members tell us that we are the best hour of their day.

When we see our members help cultivate the culture we promote by supporting and showing up for each other.

When we hear laughter and record-bells echoing through our space.
