Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Anderson.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Urban Organics has evolved significantly over the last 15 years. The journey began when my son was young, and I started paying close attention to the ingredients in the foods we ate and the products we used on our bodies. Like many parents, I wanted the very best for my child, so I spent countless hours reading labels, researching scientific studies, and learning about ingredients so I could make informed decisions for my family.
That curiosity eventually led me to start making many of our household products myself, including laundry soap, shampoos, and body oils. From there, I launched a vegan organic skincare brand and continued expanding my education. I became a Certified Aromatherapist through Aromahead Institute, where I learned about the chemistry of essential oils and how to use them safely and effectively.
As I worked more closely with plants and herbs, I found myself drawn not only to their physical properties but also to their energetic qualities. It felt both familiar and inspiring, and I wanted to explore that connection further. That path led me to Reiki, where I progressed from Level I to Master level, and later to a nine-month herbalism program with a local teacher. The work was deeply supportive of my own healing, and over time I began sharing these modalities with clients through aromatherapy, Reiki, plant guidance, and vibrational medicine.
As my son got older, I returned to school once again; this time for Massage Therapy. It was the final piece that allowed me to bring together everything I had been studying and practicing for years. More recently, I completed training in Craniosacral Therapy, and I continue to pursue education in subjects that fascinate me and help support the people I work with.
Looking back, there is a common thread through all of it. Ever since I was a child, I have felt connected to nature and fascinated by plants. Being able to work with them every day, both personally and professionally, feels like a gift.
I also knew early on that I wanted to create my own business. I had a vision for an experience that I hadn’t personally found elsewhere; one that blends therapeutic bodywork, nervous system support, energy work, and genuine customization. Working for myself has allowed me the freedom to create that experience and continually evolve it.
Today, every session is tailored to the individual in front of me. Whether someone is dealing with fascial restrictions, muscle tension, stress, overwhelm, or simply a desire to reconnect with themselves, my goal is to create a space where they can slow down, receive care, and access the healing state of the parasympathetic nervous system. I often tell clients that there’s a difference between booking a massage and truly receiving one. Helping people understand and experience that difference is one of the most meaningful parts of my work.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road, although I believe every challenge has helped shape the business into what it is today.
One of the biggest challenges has been building something that doesn’t fit neatly into a single box. Massage therapy, Reiki, aromatherapy, herbalism, craniosacral therapy, and nervous system support are often viewed as separate disciplines, but my vision has always been to bring them together in a way that feels cohesive and individualized. Sometimes that means educating people about what I do and helping them understand that healing and wellness can look different for each person.
Another challenge has been the constant commitment to learning. I have invested many years in education, certifications, and training while simultaneously running a business and raising a child. There have been moments where I questioned whether I should slow down, but my curiosity has always pulled me forward. I genuinely love learning, and I believe my clients benefit from that continued growth.
Like many small business owners, I’ve also had to wear every hat imaginable. Beyond working with clients, there is marketing, scheduling, bookkeeping, continuing education, product development, and all of the behind the scenes responsibilities that come with owning a business. It can be challenging, but it has also taught me resilience and adaptability.
Perhaps the biggest lesson has been learning to trust my own vision. There have been times when it would have been easier to follow a more traditional path, but I wanted to create an experience that reflected my values and the way I believe healing happens. Staying true to that vision has required patience, but it has also been one of the most rewarding parts of the journey.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At Urban Organics, I offer Massage Therapy, Reiki, Craniosacral Therapy, Aromatherapy, and herbal support, but what I really specialize in is creating an experience that helps people slow down enough to truly receive care.
Every session is customized to the individual. I don’t believe healing should be limited by a menu of add-ons or upgraded services. That’s one of the reasons I operate as a tip-free establishment and include many of the therapies that are often offered as extras elsewhere. If I believe a particular tool may support someone’s healing, relaxation, or recovery, I want the freedom to use it without worrying about whether they paid for an upgrade or even knew to ask for it.
Hot stones are incorporated into most of my sessions, a practice inspired by teachings from my Chinese massage instructors. I also use moist heat, weighted compresses, warm towels, aromatherapy, and handcrafted herbal preparations to help clients settle into a deeper state of relaxation. I love creating customized balms, oils, and lotions tailored to a person’s specific needs, whether they are experiencing inflammation, muscle tension, headaches, nervous system dysregulation, exhaustion, digestive discomfort, or irritated skin. In my experience, there is almost always a plant ally that can offer support.
What sets my work apart most is the way I blend physical and energetic care. Before becoming a Massage Therapist, I spent nearly a decade working as a Reiki practitioner. In many ways, I worked with people’s energy long before I worked with their muscles. Over the years, that experience has helped me develop a strong intuitive awareness that often allows me to recognize areas of stress, holding patterns, or emotional overwhelm before they are fully expressed. It helps guide each session in a way that feels deeply personalized and responsive to what the client needs in that moment.
What I am most proud of is the environment I have created. My clients often tell me they feel cared for the moment they walk through the door. Every detail from the warmth of the treatment room and the scent of the herbs and essential oils to the customized bodywork itself is designed to help the nervous system soften and feel safe. My goal isn’t simply to provide a massage; it’s to create a space where people can reconnect with themselves, find relief, and remember what it feels like to be supported.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
The easiest way to work with me is to book a session at Urban Organics. I work with people seeking relief from chronic tension, stress, nervous system overwhelm, physical discomfort, and those simply looking for a place where they can slow down, reconnect, and receive individualized care. Whether someone is interested in Massage Therapy, Reiki, Craniosacral Therapy, or a blend of modalities, every session is customized to their needs.
I also enjoy collaborating with other practitioners and wellness professionals who share a holistic approach to health and healing. I believe some of the best outcomes happen when practitioners work together and recognize that every person benefits from different forms of support.
One of the most meaningful ways people can support my work is simply by sharing their experience. Small businesses grow through word of mouth, and I am incredibly grateful for every client who refers a friend, leaves a review, or trusts me enough to be part of their healing journey.
As someone who is endlessly curious, I am always learning, exploring new modalities, and finding ways to deepen the care I offer. I look forward to continuing to grow, connect with my community, and create a space where people feel genuinely supported, seen, and cared for. In a world that constantly asks us to do more, move faster, and stay connected, I am passionate about creating a space where people can finally set all of that down for a while.
