Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyinesha Shaheer.
Hi Tyinesha, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey into the beauty industry began right at home. Like many beauty enthusiasts, I spent countless hours watching YouTube videos, teaching myself makeup techniques, and learning how to enhance my own appearance for special occasions and everyday confidence. What started as a personal interest quickly became a passion.
Wanting to perfect my craft, I enrolled in makeup classes to gain hands-on experience and strengthen my skills. As I became more confident in my abilities, family and friends began asking me to do their makeup for events and celebrations. Around that time, the beauty industry was experiencing tremendous growth, and I realized that what started as a hobby could become something much bigger.
I began taking clients from my home and eventually had the opportunity to work as a makeup artist for a local beauty store. During my two to three years there, I was able to sharpen my skills, learn new techniques, and gain valuable experience that helped shape me into the artist I am today.
As beauty trends evolved, brow tinting began gaining popularity. I had already developed a reputation for creating beautiful brows with makeup, so I decided to invest in additional education and become certified in brow tinting. I immersed myself in learning different methods and techniques that would allow me to enhance my clients’ natural beauty and help them feel confident every day.
Driven by my desire to continue growing, I enrolled in esthetician school and expanded both my knowledge and the services I offered. Eventually, I realized that I wanted to build something of my own. I stepped away from the security of working for someone else and returned to working from home while focusing on growing my clientele and establishing my brand.
After building a loyal client base, I took a leap of faith and signed the lease on my own salon suite. Today, a year and a half later, my business is thriving. I have built a career doing what I love and have grown my business into a six-figure brand, consistently generating over $5,000 a month while continuing to add new services, refine my craft, and pursue ongoing education.
One of the greatest lessons entrepreneurship has taught me is that growth never stops. Success isn’t about reaching a destination—it’s about continuously evolving. My philosophy is simple: never stop learning, never stop investing in yourself, and never stop striving to become the best version of yourself. That mindset has been the foundation of my success, and it is the advice I share with anyone pursuing their dreams.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Building a business is never a smooth journey. There are obstacles at every stage, and I’ve learned that success isn’t about avoiding them—it’s about learning how to navigate them.
One of my biggest challenges has been overcoming self-doubt. There have been moments when I questioned whether I was capable of growing a successful business or whether I was truly cut out for entrepreneurship. Those thoughts can be discouraging, but I’ve learned not to let them define my journey.
Another lesson was realizing that clients don’t simply appear overnight. When I first started, I thought I could post my work, people would see it, and my calendar would immediately fill up. The reality was very different. Building a loyal clientele takes time, consistency, and patience. Learning to trust the process has been one of the greatest lessons of my entrepreneurial journey.
Financially, there have been seasons where I’ve invested more into my business than I’ve earned. Even now, while experiencing $5,000 months, there are still times when my expenses outweigh my income because I’m constantly reinvesting in growth. Entrepreneurship has taught me that revenue and profit aren’t always the same, and long-term success often requires short-term sacrifice.
One obstacle I didn’t expect was the lack of support from some family members and friends. Naturally, you hope the people closest to you will be your biggest cheerleaders, but that’s not always the case. I’ve learned that your strongest supporters are often the people who believe in your vision, regardless of whether they’ve known you your whole life. That realization was difficult at first, but it helped me focus on serving my clients instead of seeking validation.
Perhaps the biggest challenge has been knowing when it’s time to leave the security of a traditional 9-to-5 job. Walking away from a guaranteed paycheck to build something of your own is both exciting and intimidating. As a business owner, you don’t always know what next week or next month will look like, and that uncertainty can be overwhelming.
I’ve also had to accept that growth requires constant learning. There have been times when projects didn’t turn out the way I envisioned or when I realized my skills still needed refining. Instead of seeing those moments as failures, I’ve chosen to view them as opportunities to improve, practice, and become better at my craft.
If entrepreneurship has taught me anything, it’s that building a business isn’t about having a perfect path—it’s about having the perseverance to keep moving forward. Every obstacle has strengthened my confidence, sharpened my skills, and reminded me that success comes from doing it your own way.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At the heart of what I do is helping people feel more confident by enhancing the natural beauty they already have. My goal has never been to change someone’s appearance—it’s to highlight the features that make them uniquely beautiful and help them see themselves in a new light.
I specialize in brows, and over the years I’ve built a reputation as one of Minneapolis’ leading brow artists. Being recognized for my expertise is something I don’t take for granted. It reflects the countless hours I’ve invested in perfecting my craft, continuing my education, and delivering consistent results for every client who sits in my chair.
What I’m most proud of isn’t just the growth of my business—it’s the journey behind it. I’m proud of the discipline, dedication, and resilience it took to build my brand, and it’s incredibly rewarding to see that hard work paying off.
What truly sets me apart is my mindset. I don’t view other beauty professionals as competition; I see them as peers and potential collaborators. There’s room for all of us to succeed, and I believe that supporting one another only strengthens our industry. I’ve found that when you stay focused on your own purpose instead of comparing yourself to others, you create space for genuine growth. I stay in my own lane, remain committed to my clients, and let the quality of my work speak for itself.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned throughout this journey is patience. Building a successful business doesn’t happen overnight, and I’ve come to understand that growth can’t be rushed. Every season has a purpose, and every challenge has something to teach you.
I’ve learned to embrace the process instead of constantly focusing on the destination. Sitting in my growth, trusting the journey, and allowing things to unfold in their own time has made me not only a stronger business owner but a stronger person. Patience has taught me that lasting success is built through consistency, perseverance, and the willingness to keep showing up—even when the results aren’t immediate.
