Life & Work with Katrina DeWit of Minnesota

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katrina DeWit.

Hi Katrina, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up feeling powerless and voiceless, I found my purpose in helping others find their footing, particularly those who’ve historically had the least access to real estate. That drive is what shaped the business I’ve built today as a Real Estate Advisor. My own journey has taken me from being a condo expert in the heart of downtown to raising two young children in Northeast Minneapolis, and that evolution has given me a genuine appreciation for the full spectrum of lifestyles and housing choices people navigate. I specialize in working with female investors and LGBTQ+ clients, because I know that finding the right property goes far beyond square footage. It’s about creating a space where you can authentically thrive. What keeps me excited every day is the ability to stand beside my clients with both education and advocacy, whether they’re building wealth through investment, finding a place to call home, or both. Because at the end of the day, everyone deserves a safe place that’s truly their own.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Oh, I give up probably weekly. Being a business owner is no easy path, and for every glam Instagram post, there’s ten moments where I’m helping a client navigate a tricky divorce sale, trying to find a rhythm in being both the CEO and janitor of my business, and fielding three phone calls at the same time. I find it VERY cathartic to yell “I QUIT” and storm out of my office to find a meil at the coffee shop around the corner or go for a quick bike ride, then hop right back into whatever needs doing with a fresh outlook.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At the heart of my business is a simple belief: everyone deserves not just a place to live, but a place to truly belong. I specialize in working with female investors and LGBTQ+ clients, communities that have often been underserved or overlooked in real estate, and I bring both deep market knowledge and genuine personal investment to every transaction. What sets me apart isn’t just expertise, it’s advocacy. I don’t hand clients a list of options and step back; I walk alongside them through education, strategy, and the emotional weight that comes with one of life’s biggest decisions and the nuance that being in those groups can bring to real estate decisions.

My background spans from the downtown condo market to new construction design to neighborhoods across the Twin Cities, which means I can speak to a wide range of lifestyles and goals with real credibility. I’m equally comfortable helping a first-time buyer navigate homeownership for the first time as I am helping an investor build a portfolio intentionally. I’m not a stranger to what moving with two kids in tow means on a visceral level.

What I’m most proud of is the trust my clients place in me, many of them coming from experiences where they felt unseen or unheard, and being able to show them that this process can feel empowering rather than overwhelming. That transformation, from uncertainty to confidence, is what I’m known for and what keeps me deeply committed to this work.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I have historically shied away from networking as the thought of group chatter with a loud room of strangers is the last place I’d like to be, but I found alignment with The Better Black Business Project (B3) in a shared set of values and a dedicated structure that doesn’t allow one voice in the room to take over from the collective experience. Highly recommend!
