Today we’d like to introduce you to Alaina Herrmann.
Hi Alaina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Alaina Herrmann, and I am the owner of SELAH SKIN in Apple Valley, Minnesota.
I’ve always loved helping people and making them feel cared for, which led me to pursue a career as an Esthetician.
Over the past four years in the industry, I realized skincare is about so much more than treating the skin. It’s about helping people feel confident, cared for, and truly seen.
As I continued growing in my career, I also found my faith, and Jesus completely transformed my life. As my relationship with Him grew, so did my vision for what I wanted my career to look like. I knew I didn’t just want to create a skincare studio. I wanted to create a peaceful space where people could step away from the busyness of everyday life, feel cared for, and leave with both healthier skin and a sense of peace. At the beginning of 2026, I took a leap of faith and turned that dream into a reality by opening SELAH SKIN.
The name “Selah” comes from the Bible and is often understood as a moment to pause, breathe, and rest. That meaning became the foundation of everything I wanted to build. From the peaceful atmosphere and worship music to the intentional care each client receives, every detail is designed to help people slow down, relax, and feel at home.
Today, SELAH SKIN specializes in customized facial treatments designed to target each client’s unique skin concerns. Whether someone is struggling with acne, signs of aging or simply wants to maintain healthy, glowing skin, I love creating personalized treatment plans because I believe skincare isn’t one-size-fits-all.
Starting SELAH SKIN has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. The greatest joy has been building relationships with my clients, helping them feel confident in their skin, and creating a space where they know they are valued and cared for. Watching this dream become a reality and seeing the impact it has on the people who walk through my doors has been incredibly meaningful.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a business has definitely been a learning experience. There have been challenges that come with building something from the ground up, from learning the business side of things to stepping outside of my comfort zone and wearing many different hats.
One of the biggest challenges has been trusting the process and continuing to grow while figuring things out along the way. Starting Selah Skin required faith, patience, and a willingness to learn, but each step has been incredibly rewarding. The support from my clients, family, and community has been such a blessing, and seeing the relationships I’ve built through this business makes every challenge worth it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Selah Skin is a faith-inspired skincare studio located in Apple Valley, Minnesota, created with the purpose of helping people feel cared for, confident, and at peace. I specialize in customized facial treatments that are tailored to each client’s unique skin needs and goals.
My approach to skincare is centered around the belief that healthy skin starts with understanding each individual. Whether clients are looking to address acne, signs of aging, pigmentation, dryness, or simply maintain a healthy glow, every treatment is personalized to meet them where they are in their skincare journey.
What sets Selah Skin apart is the experience I strive to create. I wanted to build more than just a place where people come for a facial. I wanted to create a peaceful environment where clients can slow down, feel seen, and truly take time for themselves. From the calming atmosphere to the intentional care given during each appointment, every detail reflects the meaning behind the name Selah, which represents a moment to pause, breathe, and rest.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
One of the biggest things I’ve learned is the importance of surrounding yourself with people who inspire you, encourage you, and are willing to share their knowledge. Finding mentors doesn’t always have to be a formal process. Sometimes it starts by building genuine relationships, asking questions, and being open to learning from people who have more experience than you.
For me, being willing to reach out, listen, and learn from others in the industry has been incredibly valuable. I believe the best connections come from authenticity and showing that you truly care about building relationships, not just what you can gain from them.
My advice for anyone looking for a mentor or wanting to network is to not be afraid to put yourself out there. Ask questions, support other businesses, attend events, and connect with people who align with your values. The right mentors and relationships can help you grow not only as a business owner but also as a person.
