Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeff Reed.
Hi Jeff, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up dealing with a lot of traumatic things. As a kid, I didn’t understand what that was. When I started going to therapy in my early thirties, I began to see that many of those painful things shaped who I chose to be for better and worse. The healing that started to take place in my life was awesome. I began to discover who I really am verses who I felt like I had to be. We bury most of the things and that don’t like or care to remember. But true healing comes from working through those memories and pain points.
If this stuff is true for me, then it’s probably true for everybody else. I’ve always had a desire to help people and I found a way to take what I’ve been learning and share it.
I’m no therapist and in fact I strongly encourage folks to try therapy or counseling. What I do is introduce people to the starting line and why we might want to start the healing journey. B.A.CK.out is the company that I started. The name stems from the initial presentation that introduces 4 steps to emotional regulation. B.A.C.K. is an acronym that stands for Breathe, Ask, Cry, and Kick it. I present basic emotional regulation techniques in a way that make them relevant to a person experiencing mental and/mental hardship.
I made so many mistakes fueled by negative emotions. What would my life look like if I could have handled many situations differently? Better yet, since we can’t go back to the past, what could life look like for me now as I begin healing?
My work has brought me to many different audiences like students, athletes, teachers, counselors, entrepreneurs, CEO’s, presidents, and VP’s, rehabilitation clients, incarcerated men and women and government officials. I’m proud to say that the message has been effective. I’m grateful to be a small part of someone’s healing journey. I love doing what I do.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Closed doors. – When you’re first starting off, you’re unknown and many people don’t want to work with you so it’s a lot of work marketing and creating moments of connection for people to buy into you and your service.
Self doubt – When success doesn’t happen on your expected timeline, you can start to doubt if what you offer is good enough.
Pivoting – The product I have now isn’t what I started with. I had to learn how to hold tightly to the things that are effective and discard or continue to cultivate the things that didn’t work.
Lack of knowledge – I had to learn so much over the years. As much info that I knew, there was just as much that I didn’t. I’m still learning
Business understanding – I love people and my service is very relational. I had to learn that this is also a business meaning that I have to help solve a problem and I had to understand what problem I’m helping solve.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I help people help themselves when it comes to their emotional and mental states. I am a speaker, I present my life story and shortcomings and the ways to deal with those things. I’ve created 3 interactive, attention keeping presentations that make people think about healing and believing it is possible. My presentation feels like a friend talking to you but with sound information given as well. My brand is all about hope with practical steps to see hope materialized. My brand is hopeful, real, and relevant. I want people to know that my services are for anyone wanting to better themselves in any way. The message I bring is genuinely life changing.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I was the manager for the boys high school basketball team. We lost the state championship but we still had a rally back at the school. I remember the head coach acknowledging all of the coaching staff and players and people cheering for them. He then mentioned me and the whole place gave me a standing ovation. I was truly surprised but I felt seen and appreciated.
