Today we’d like to introduce you to Blair Dumba.
Hi Blair, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started my career as a labor and delivery nurse, where I spent years caring for women during some of the most important moments of their lives. That experience taught me the value of listening, building trust, and treating the whole person, not just the diagnosis.
After becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner, I realized there was a gap between traditional healthcare and preventative, personalized wellness. I wanted to create a place where people felt truly seen and where aesthetics, wellness, and medicine could work together to help patients look, feel, and perform at their best.
That vision led me to open Be Your Kind in 2023. What began as a small practice has grown into a multidisciplinary clinic offering medical aesthetics, skin health, wellness, weight management, hormone optimization, and regenerative therapies. We’ve built an incredible team that shares the same philosophy: taking the time to educate patients, create individualized treatment plans, and focus on long-term health rather than quick fixes.
Today, my passion is continuing to grow Be Your Kind while staying committed to innovation, evidence-based care, and creating an experience where every patient feels empowered to become the healthiest version of themselves.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all. Like most small businesses, there have been plenty of challenges along the way. Starting a healthcare business comes with balancing patient care, hiring the right team, navigating regulations, managing finances, and constantly adapting to changes in the industry.
One of the biggest lessons has been learning how to grow without losing sight of our mission. As we’ve expanded, we’ve had to build systems, develop leaders, and make difficult decisions that ultimately support the long-term vision of the practice. There have certainly been setbacks and moments of uncertainty, but each challenge has helped us become a stronger organization.
Looking back, those obstacles have been some of our greatest teachers. They’ve pushed us to continuously improve, stay adaptable, and remain focused on providing exceptional care for our patients.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Be Your Kind is an integrative medical aesthetics and wellness clinic located in Edina, Minnesota. Our mission is to help patients become the healthiest, most confident version of themselves by combining evidence-based medicine with personalized, preventative care.
What sets us apart is our whole-person approach. Rather than focusing on a single treatment or procedure, we take the time to understand each patient’s goals and create comprehensive care plans that may include medical aesthetics, skin health, wellness, hormone optimization, weight management, regenerative therapies, and lifestyle recommendations. We believe the best outcomes happen when patients feel educated, empowered, and involved in their care.
We’re also incredibly passionate about innovation and education. We continually invest in advanced technology, training, and research to ensure we’re providing our patients with the safest and most effective treatments available. Every recommendation we make is individualized.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the culture we’ve created. We strive to make every patient feel welcomed, heard, and genuinely cared for from the moment they walk through our doors. Our goal isn’t simply to help someone look better; it’s to help them feel healthier, more confident, and empowered in every aspect of their life.
Above all, we want people to know that Be Your Kind is built on authenticity, compassion, and excellence. We believe healthcare and aesthetics can coexist in a way that is thoughtful, ethical, and deeply personalized, and that’s the experience we aim to deliver every single day.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Starting Be Your Kind was by far the biggest risk I’ve ever taken. Leaving the security of a traditional healthcare career to build a business from the ground up was both exciting and intimidating. There are no guarantees in entrepreneurship, especially in healthcare, where regulations, technology, and patient expectations are constantly evolving.
I’ve learned that taking risks doesn’t mean being reckless, it means being willing to make difficult decisions after doing your homework. Every major investment we’ve made, whether it’s expanding our team, bringing in new technology, or adding new services, has involved uncertainty. But I’ve always believed that if you stay committed to your mission, make data-driven decisions, and continue learning, those risks become opportunities for growth.
I’m also not afraid to admit when something isn’t working. I think one of the most important qualities as a business owner is being willing to pivot. Sometimes the greatest risk isn’t making a change, it’s staying comfortable for too long.
Ultimately, I believe growth happens outside of your comfort zone. Every challenge, setback, and calculated risk has helped shape both me as a leader and Be Your Kind as a brand. Looking back, I wouldn’t be where I am today if I had always chosen the safe path.
