Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Zoss.
Amanda , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey into entrepreneurship began back in 2009 when I was laid off from my position as a graphic designer. The economy was tough at that time, making jobs hard to find, especially in my industry, where 100 applicants were vying for the same roles and the market was oversaturated. Determined to take a leap, I decided to create my own creative business, allowing me the flexibility to spend more time with my family.
Most of my work involves creating graphics and templates for others to use. My offerings range from SVG files for digital craft cutting machines and laser cutters to invitation templates for special events. Recently, I’ve developed a passion for making hand-painted wooden earrings and paper-quilled jewelry, which I sell at local vendor events.
Much of my work features Minnesota motifs, including wildlife and botanical-themed items.
I feel incredibly fortunate to pursue something I love every day. My biggest supporters are my husband and my daughter; they are my greatest cheerleaders!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No. Working for yourself has its ups and downs. If the economy is bad, people are not spending money on jewelry or art. Back when I started, printing invitations was more the norm; today, designs have moved to digital formats and AI. Being a designer challenges me to shift my creativity to learning new media and creative ways of making things. The thing that stays consistent is the creativity, and that is what I love!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I do a variety of graphic design work and specialize in creating SVG files and templates for others to use with their digital craft cutters or laser machines. I am known for unique designs that have a bit of Minnesota in each piece. Anyone can make an ornament or a pair of earrings,I do a variety of graphic design work, specializing in creating SVG files and templates for digital craft cutters and laser machines. My designs often reflect a bit of Minnesota, making them unique. While anyone can make an ornament or a pair of earrings, what sets my creations apart is that I design everything myself; I don’t purchase files from others, and I don’t use AI in my design process. but I think what makes my creations stick out is the fact that I create all my own designs; I don’t buy files I don’t use Ai in the creation of my designs either.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory was running around with my twin sister on the hobby farm that we grew up on. Horses were a big part of my life back then, and that sometimes still shows up in my art.
