Meet Judy Tran of Hirondelle Golf

Today we’d like to introduce you to Judy Tran.

Judy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
The first time I stepped onto a driving range, I thought I was simply trying something new with a friend. I didn’t know that one swing would lead me back to a part of myself I had been missing for years.
I was introduced to golf during a season when I felt disconnected from who I was. I had spent years searching for confidence and belonging through relationships, my career, and therapy. The pandemic brought many of those feelings to the surface, and I found myself reflecting deeply on the person I had become—and the person I used to be.
When I immigrated to the United States from Vietnam at 10 years old, I left behind more than a familiar home and culture. I had once been a bold, fearless little girl, but in a new country where everything felt unfamiliar, I grew shy and slowly lost touch with that confidence.
Golf helped me find it again.
There was something healing about the game. It taught me to be present, trust myself, and keep going after a difficult shot. It reminded me that progress does not always happen in a straight line—and that one imperfect moment does not define what comes next. With every round, I felt more grounded, more joyful, and more like myself.
Just as meaningful were the people I met along the way. Golf opened the door to a generous and encouraging community where friendships could grow naturally. For the first time in a long time, I felt a true sense of connection and belonging.
That feeling became the heart of Hirondelle Golf.
I started Hirondelle because I wanted to share what golf had given me: confidence, healing, joy, and community. I envisioned apparel that blends fashion and performance—pieces that help people feel comfortable, capable, and beautiful on and off the course. But more than that, I wanted to create a brand that makes people feel welcomed and reminds them that they belong.
The swallow in our logo represents hope, freedom, and transformation. It also inspired the Elle Collection, created to encourage conversations about mental health, self-love, and self-care. Because this mission is deeply personal to me, Hirondelle donates 10% of the collection’s net profits to mental health organizations.
Hirondelle began with a simple invitation from a friend, but it grew from something much deeper: the feeling of finding my way back to myself. Today, my hope is that Hirondelle can help others do the same—not only through the game of golf, but through the confidence and connections they discover along the way.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, but it has been one of the toughest and most meaningful adventures I’ve had the privilege to take on.
I had started other e-commerce brands before, but fashion proved to be a completely different world. In the beginning, I spent more than 70% of my time behind the scenes—managing logistics, operations, sourcing, and product development. That left far less time for sales, marketing, and building relationships with our community, which are the areas where I naturally feel strongest.
Product development was perhaps the greatest challenge. Creating apparel that looks beautiful is one thing; creating pieces that also perform well and make different people feel comfortable and confident is much more complex. Every body is different, and every golfer has their own needs and preferences. There were many late nights spent reviewing samples, adjusting fits, reconsidering fabrics, and refining small details until the products felt right.
The list of challenges could go on forever, but each one has taught me something valuable. Building Hirondelle has required patience, resilience, and a willingness to keep learning. In many ways, those lessons mirror golf itself: you won’t get every shot right, but you reflect, make an adjustment, and take the next swing.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Hirondelle Golf is a fashion-forward golf apparel brand created to help people feel confident, comfortable, and fully themselves—both on and off the course. We specialize in thoughtfully designed pieces that bring together performance, functionality, and personal style. Our goal is to create clothing that moves with the golfer while still feeling polished enough to become part of their everyday wardrobe.
What sets Hirondelle apart is the heart behind the brand. We are not simply creating apparel; we are building the kind of welcoming and uplifting community that golf gave me when I needed it most. We believe the game can be a powerful space for self-discovery, meaningful connection, and personal growth. Whether someone is an experienced golfer or picking up a club for the first time, we want them to feel that there is a place for them here.
We are especially thoughtful about fit and function. Every body is different, so creating apparel that helps people feel both comfortable and confident requires patience, listening, and attention to detail. From fabrics and silhouettes to the smallest functional elements, our products are developed with the real experience of golfers in mind.
I am most proud of our Elle Collection, named after the swallow in our logo—a symbol of hope, freedom, and transformation. The collection represents our commitment to mental health, self-love, and self-care, with 10% of its net profits donated to mental health organizations. It connects our products to a purpose that is deeply personal to me and central to why Hirondelle exists.
Above all, I want readers to know that Hirondelle Golf is a brand created with intention. We want people to wear our pieces and feel capable, beautiful, and inspired to take up space. For us, success is not only about what we make; it is about how people feel when they become part of the Hirondelle community.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I’ve had the opportunity to visit Minnesota a handful of times, and what stays with me most is its sense of community. I love the diversity of the Twin Cities and the way different cultures, perspectives, and traditions give each neighborhood its own character. As someone who immigrated to the United States from Vietnam, I especially appreciate places where people from different backgrounds can feel seen and find belonging.
I’m also inspired by how Minnesotans support local makers, independent businesses, and brands with a meaningful story. That spirit feels closely connected to what we are building at Hirondelle—a business rooted in community, personal growth, and creating a positive impact. And, of course, Minnesota’s beautiful outdoor spaces and strong golf culture make it an exciting place for a brand like ours.
What I like least would probably have to be the long winters—especially as a golfer! The golf season can feel much too short. But perhaps that is also why Minnesotans seem to appreciate every beautiful day outdoors so fully. Each time I leave, I feel there is still much more of Minnesota I would love to experience.
