Hi Channel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my journey in music by studying music and music technology, where I developed a foundation in songwriting, production, and audio engineering. From there, I continued developing as a producer and artist, eventually creating my own independent platform, Dreamworld, and releasing music under the name Channel Jamil.
Over the years, I’ve focused heavily on production, building my own catalog, experimenting with different genres and sounds, and developing projects around various genres of instrumental music, with hip-hop and lo-fi being among them. I’ve also been involved with FTB Music Group as a co-owner, working alongside other producers and creatives. Today, I’m continuing to grow as an independent artist and producer while building Dreamworld into a platform that can create opportunities for both artists and producers.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been trying to build a career in music independently while learning the creative, technical, and business sides of the industry at the same time. There have been periods where progress was slower than I expected, and figuring out how to consistently get the music heard and create opportunities has been a challenge.
But I’ve learned to stay committed to the process and keep developing. Those challenges have pushed me to become more independent, more disciplined, and more knowledgeable about the music business. I’ve continued building my catalog, improving my production, and finding new ways to create opportunities for myself and other artists and producers.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As an artist and producer, I specialize in creating and developing music across a wide range of genres, with a strong focus on instrumental music, hip-hop, and lo-fi. I’m also a songwriter and audio engineer, so I approach music from multiple sides of the creative process, from developing the initial idea and production to recording, mixing, and shaping the overall sound.
I’m known for multiple things creatively. Some people know me more as an artist, others know me more as a producer, and others know me more as an engineer. Some recognize me as all three. What sets me apart in each of those areas is how I approach them. I thrive on getting the best result possible, whether it’s for my own music as an artist and producer or whether I’m producing and engineering for another artist.
My perspective is what makes me unique because I can view music through multiple lenses, and I specialize in three different areas of the creative process. So when I’m producing for someone or recording and mixing an artist, I have insight into how that process works both behind the boards and behind the booth. I understand the production side, the performance side, and the technical side, and I can bring all three perspectives together.
One of the things I’m most proud of is the amount of music I’ve created and the catalog I’ve built independently over the years. I’ve also been able to develop that creativity through both Dreamworld and FTB Music Group.
What sets me apart is also my willingness to keep learning and experimenting. I don’t want to be limited to one sound or one genre. I’m interested in creating music that can serve different purposes, tell different stories, and ultimately create opportunities not only for myself but for other artists and producers as well.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My biggest advice is to build a strong, dependable team from the very beginning and lock in! Build with people you trust and, just as importantly, people who trust you. Having the right people around you can make a huge difference in how far you’re able to go.
I’d also encourage people to learn about every part of the machine they’re trying to build as they go, and learn how to maintain it consistently. Then build your team with people who are capable of executing in their respective fields and contributing to each part of that machine. Don’t just focus on creating the music. Have a clear awareness of the business, the relationships, the branding, the technology, and everything else that keeps your vision moving toward your goal.
Most importantly, think about your music not only as individual songs, but as a whole catalog. Think about who you’re creating for, why you’re creating, and what purpose the music serves. Follow your flow, create the wave, and embrace the vibes!
