Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew For America.
Hi Andrew, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I joined the Navy out of high school and got stationed in San Diego. While in San Diego I started playing in punk rock bands, and my band was getting shows and growing in local popularity. This went on for many years, military training followed by lots of stage time. After I got out of the military, I started bartending and have been doing so ever since. I love connecting with people and hearing stories from people from all walks of life. So this was the basis for my idea to eventually do the podcast. I asked myself, “what do I know, and what am I good at?” Politics & Punk Rock I guess! I just took these two worlds that I knew very well and turned it into a weird, niche little show.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, there are always lots of struggles. No success can be had without struggle. Keeping a band together is very difficult sometimes. Lots if differing opinions, points of view, and lots of egos. Lots of broken promises. Same thing with the military, struggle is basically your day-to-day life in the military!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a career bartender, have competed in many cocktail competitions, and I have a private event business called Top Shelf Private Bartenders. We do private parties, corporate events, weddings, etc.
I have also been in many punk rock bands, most notably “Non-Prophet.” We had the opportunity to record an EP (The Catalyst EP) with famed punk rock producer Ryan Greene, and we played for a few years around the southwestern United States.
I also have my show The Politics & Punk Rock Podcast, a podcast “for intelligent truth seekers who love punk rock music and have an earnest desire to save the world.”
I’m proud of all of my little projects and creative ventures over the years, and I think my unique experience and expertise is what sets me apart.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Finding a mentor is very important no matter what the goal is. I have had trusted friends and people that I respect as my mentors in various fields. I always say, “find someone who is doing what you want to do, and become coachable and grateful if they decide to give you an opportunity to learn.”
