Hi Shawlonte’, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Christ Led Diva was born from my own transformation, but the mission has grown into something much bigger than my story.
Christ Led Diva (CLD) is the ministry brand I created as the name and identity behind my Christian work. “Christ Led” was birthed from Romans 8:14: “For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.” “Diva” represents the part of me that has never quite fit the mold of what some people think a Christian woman is supposed to look, talk, act, or even think like. (laughs). I’m just me–a diva who loves Jesus and desires to be led by Him in my daily walk.
Through CLD, I serve as a Christian author, motivational speaker, faith coach, podcaster, and content creator, using each of those avenues to help people—especially those who are new to the faith or are curious about Christianity—learn about Jesus. I help them understand biblical truth and grow in their relationship with Him.
The CLD mantra is “From Street Bred to Christ Led.” That phrase comes directly from my testimony. I grew up in the inner city and spent a significant part of my early life operating from a broken spirit and survival mentality.
On August 2, 2009, I surrendered my life to Jesus Christ, and that decision completely changed the trajectory of my life.
But becoming a Christian didn’t mean I suddenly knew how to live like one. I had to learn what it meant to be “Christ like”. I had to learn scripture and develop a prayer life. I had to become intentional about going to church and learn why attendance, fellowship, and serving is so important to my spiritual growth. I had to change habits, confront old mindsets, learn from spiritually mature people, and begin applying biblical principles learned to my everyday decisions. I’m still learning these things. That journey is a major part of why CLD exists today.
There are people who are curious about Jesus but don’t know where to begin. There are new believers who have accepted Christ but are asking, “Okay, what do I do now?” And there are people who genuinely want to grow spiritually but struggle with consistency, understanding Scripture, prayer, church involvement, or simply knowing how to incorporate their faith into everyday life. CLD exists to help bridge that gap. Through biblical reflections, motivational content, speaking, coaching, books, practical resources, podcasting, and honest conversations about real-life issues, CLD helps people take what they are learning about Christ and begin walking it out.
I may be the testimony behind the brand, but helping other people build their own relationship with Jesus is CLD’s mission.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not, and in many ways those struggles helped shape the ministry CLD has become. My faith journey taught me that spiritual transformation is a process. There were habits I had to break, mindsets I had to unlearn, relationships that changed, wounds that needed healing, and seasons when I struggled with consistency myself. Truthfully, these are things I’m still working on.
I’ve made mistakes. I’ve backslid into old behaviors. I’ve had moments when I knew what God was calling me to do and still struggled to do it. Those experiences shaped how I approach the work I do through CLD ministry. I never want someone who reads my book, hears my podcast, or comes to me for support to feel condemned because they are struggling, starting over, or still figuring things out. At the same time, I don’t want to simply make people feel good where they may be missing it. I want to encourage them through the Word of God to keep growing.
CLD celebrates consistency, but it also celebrates returning. If you missed a few days of reading Scripture, come back. If you haven’t prayed in a while, start talking to God again. If you stopped attending church, find your way back to your local faith community. If you messed up, there is no shame. Repent, learn from it, and keep walking. That balance of grace and growth is important to Jesus. It’s what He extends to me, so it is important for me to extend it to others.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
A big part of my work through Christ Led Diva is coaching others on how to develop practical biblical disciplines that support their spiritual growth. That can mean helping someone establish consistent devotional and Scripture-reading time. It could mean helping them develop a prayer life or finding a local church home where they can learn the Bible from a pastor and grow in fellowship community. It could mean writing books to help others understand biblical principles so they can begin applying those principles to their relationships, decisions, habits, healing, purpose, and everyday life.
CLD uses different platforms and resources to accomplish that mission. For example, I co-host “Making It Last 4 Ever”, a Christian marriage and relationship podcast where real conversations are had about dating, relationships, marriage, and what it looks like to navigate them, especially as Christian women. My co-host and I share our perspectives, personal experiences, lessons learned, biblical principles, and some of the challenges Christians face when trying to honor God in our relationships. “Being a Submissive Bread Winner” is probably my favorite topic discussed. It’s a must hear!
I’m also the author of “Oil Before the Crown: A 150 Psalms Devotional”, a book for anyone who has ever found themselves in a difficult season and wondered, “God, what is the purpose of all of this?” The book explores how God can use seasons of waiting, disappointment, and rejection to develop us into the people He has called us to be. We tend to overlook the significance of preparation—inner growth, healing, character development, and spiritual maturity that God is producing in us during seasons of hardship. The book was just released in July and the feedback I’ve received has been truly remarkable. If the book can help someone trust God through one of the darkest seasons of their life, that’s just a blessing in itself.
Both the podcast and the book are examples of what Christ Led Diva is ultimately about: helping people understand how their relationship with Christ is interconnected to real situations and seasons they experience in life. Not by following religion but by developing a real relationship.
What I’m most proud of is that CLD doesn’t require me to erase where I came from in order to talk about where Christ has brought me. That’s what “From Street Bred to Christ Led” represents. I can talk about Scripture and still sound like me. I can talk about Jesus while acknowledging brokenness, addiction, bad decisions, setbacks, healing, starting over, and the realities people actually live through because in many ways I can relate. But I also want people to see that when God transforms you, life is so much better on the right side of the track. And my realness in talking about these things is the anointing that draws people not to me, but to Christ. I want someone to encounter CLD and think, “Maybe there is a place for somebody like me in this faith walk after all.”
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Authenticity.
Authenticity creates room for honest conversations about faith and about life’s struggles. I believe part of the reason people connect with CLD is because I’m willing to be transparent about the journey. I can share what God has taught me without pretending I’ve always gotten it right or always get it right. Someone should be able to say, “I don’t understand this scripture.” “I’m struggling to pray.” “I don’t know how to choose a church.” “I messed up again; I relapsed.” “I have questions about Christianity.” Or even, “I’m not sure what I believe yet.”
Those are conversations CLD makes room for. Christ Led Diva’s work would not be effective if I tried to become a version of myself that I’m not. The best ministry advice I ever received is this: “God will not bless what you pretend to be.” So, if I’m going to be effective in what God has called me to do, I have to keep it 100. That’s what people want. That’s what people need.
