Rising Stars: Meet David Sauer

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Sauer.

David, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is David Sauer, one of the c0-founders of Game Show Battle Rooms. My friend Kevin Letnes is the other co-founder. We both grew up in central Minnesota, myself in Cold Spring and Kevin in Sartell. We both made our way to University of St. Thomas and became fast friends. We always wanted to create a business together and even tried re-selling Puma socks on eBay in college – which only netted us a lifetime supply of Puma socks. But we knew someday we’d have a good idea to start an actual business with. We both ended up in the corporate world after college, myself in marketing at Securian Financial and Kevin at Target Headquarters. All the while we knew we wanted to still start something on the side. We got our first entrepreneurial experience running a pedal pub business in Omaha, NE. A few years later we thought we wanted to do something in the experience-based business again, and something unique. One day it just hit me, I can’t believe the only way to have a game show experience is winning your way onto TV. Where’s the game show experience for everyone to enjoy. Kevin and I hit the brainstorming hard and developed what is now Game Show Battle Rooms. An experience where two teams face off playing game show games in our custom arenas – all facilitated by our charismatic game show hosts and techs!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like many small business owners across the country, and world, Covid hit us very hard in 2020. We were able to pivot to our Virtual Game Show experience on Zoom during that time, in which we still use today for many of the virtual groups spread across the country and even sometimes the globe. Our managers and employees across all locations did a great job of staying flexible and working through any challenges that came from Covid.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I would consider myself a creative person at heart but also have a detail-oriented and analytical mind. That blend has suited me well for running an experience-based business like GSBR.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
My advice for networking is don’t be afraid to ask. Most passionate business owners enjoy hearing other business ideas and being a soundboard. I know my door is always open for someone who has a passion for business.
