Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Perez. Them and their team share their story with us below:
José owned 7 salsa dance studios all throughout Venezuela and has danced since he was a young boy. He began teaching salsa over 20 years ago. When he moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota in 2016, José and his wife Jenna were excited to have the opportunity to open a Latin dance studio right in their neighborhood. They didn’t have any students or other instructors but knew it was what they were supposed to do.
4 years later the studio is healthy and growing. We have 50-100 students each week, multiple instructors, and a vibrant dance community. People learn correct technique and timing, laugh a lot, and make incredible friends. Everyone finds a place to belong. It’s more than just a dance studio, it’s a family!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It was challenging in the beginning. We had to build our student base from zero. We had to pay rent and utilities each month with very little revenue. But we made it by the grace of God! COVID also presented many challenges as we switched to online classes, and lost most of our students, but once again we survived. Classes are now thriving and we are thankful to be moving forward!

José has years of experience and is well respected in the world of dance in Venezuela. He even was awarded a Guinness World Record for having the most couples simultaneously dancing salsa!
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
We want to create a community where people fall in love with dance, make incredible friends and have fun. Success is not being the best dancer or winning the most competitions, it’s loving dance and loving people.
