Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Wiggins.
Hi Lindsay, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Since I was thirteen and purchased a small red point and shoot camera I’ve been the one documenting my family’s life. At that time, I never thought that one day I’d be documenting others’ lives. It wasn’t until my senior year of college where I could take one more class for basically free, that I started to think about documenting others. With choosing an introduction to photography class, my husband said he wanted to buy me a rebel series Canon body and basic lens. We were two college students, so there wasn’t much cash in the bank. I thought it was just too much money, but he was adamant that he wanted to get me something that I loved to encourage me to have a hobby. And there were good Black Friday deals coming. We were newly married, so I agreed to it. I was incredibly excited to open the camera at Christmas, and soon I was loving each photography assignment. That led to starting to assist a husband-and-wife team near to my school and taking photos of friends at college. Flash forward a year, and we had moved to a new town, photographed some good friends’ wedding, and both started new jobs. We had purchased a second camera body from the couple I had photographed with, and then we spent most of our dates on adventures, photographing the world together. Others in our work and church started noticing my love of photography and asking me to take their photos. Before long, we realized that this little hobby could help bring in some extra funds all while doing what we love, so we started a business built on serving others how we wanted to be served.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road? Having no background in business, I wouldn’t use the word smooth, but then again, what is life without bumps and turns? One of my professors in college challenged that so often we want our life to be one smooth line, but in reality, we get ups and downs as well as moments where it’s seemingly quiet and like a desert period, but when we put it all together, it’s like a heartbeat, showing that we are alive. A smooth line in all actuality in medical terms would be death. This is what I’d say is how business has been, ups, downs, and seemingly quiet periods, but showing that it’s very much alive. Some of the biggest struggles has been how to do business (communicate with clients well, accounting, setting it up, and all the things) and how to keep boundaries to remain healthy in our everyday life — keeping business, business and our family life, family life.
Appreciate your sharing that. What else should we know about what you do? We specialize in walking alongside joyful couples, families, and individuals to capture all of life’s exciting moments through the photographer lens. I would say that we are most proud of how we try to serve those around us as we desire to be served — we don’t just take photos, but we genuinely want to help, which often means putting on other hats like planning a timeline, pinning on boutonnieres, bringing treats for littles needing encouragement, and being a calm presence as things don’t always go as planned. What sets us apart is that we personally want to connect with those we serve, not just taking on everyone and everything, but seeing people as people and telling their story through our images.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson we’ve learned along our journey is that we can’t be everything to everyone, otherwise we’ll be nothing to no one. We have a personal style and focus, and since that focus is serving others as we want to be served, it sometimes means that we look for other photographers that will better serve our potential clients’ needs.
