Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Mayday.
Hi Megan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I first started to learn about being a social media content creator 5 years ago when I began to have brands reach out to me to promote their products to my small audience on Instagram.
Since then, I have been able to build a strong community of followers, and have put all of my energy into creating content. In 2019, I had enough brand partners to be able to take my Instagram full time and focus on creating valuable, consistent content!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not a smooth journey to where I am now, and still I am taking it day by day. The thing about content creation is it changes constantly and in order to stay relevant, you have to always be on top of trends. It’s a 24/7 gig, but I love the challenge! In order to maintain monetization from month-to-month, I put my energy into contacting brands interested in collaborating and creating content for them that results in sales. The main struggles that I have faced have been keeping up with Instagram’s ever-changing platform.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a social media content creator! I mainly promote products and services across my Instagram for brands that want exposure. I am best known to my audience for marketing products in the beauty industry, as well as my most recent venture into the motherhood space, where I have been providing detailed reviews on baby products and items to make pregnancy easier.
I am most proud that every piece of content reflects my values and that I have committed to only working with brands I believe in. I am proud to represent the Twin Cities and to get to work with so many local small businesses! I love when I get invited to shoot content at a new spot in town, whether it be for apartment complexes, restaurants, or shops – small businesses are the heart of the Twin Cities. What sets me apart from other creators is my genuine love for tracking analytics and always pushing myself to compete with previous numbers. I often lend my expertise to other creators that are trying to grow their content too!
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Quitting my previous job and relying on my content to pay my bills was a pretty big risk, but I didn’t think twice. I have tried to say “yes” way more in 2021, putting myself out there and out of my comfort zone. Taking risks can be accelerating! The unknown doesn’t scare me. I have enough faith in myself that I’ll always land on my feet. I think more people should take risks when it comes to doing what they love versus what they’re “supposed to do”.
