Today we’d like to introduce you to Karli Hughes.
Hi Karli, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was led to the world of beauty because my mother had been a hairdresser when I was a kid, and still is. I saw the impact that it made on the people that she served, When I was a teenager, my first job was being a receptionist in her Aveda salon. From there when I graduated high school I took 2 years of ARTS/generals in a university and decided that I needed to be in the beauty field.
I have been a licensed professional for 20 years. My path has included working in a full service salon, Cosmetology instructor at the AVEDA Institute MPLS, Bridal freelance artist, Corrective color specialist and extension educator.
My journey in bridal started in the beginning of my career when it was common for the brides and bridal party to still go to the salon. 12 years ago I started to travel onsite to the client doing HMUA for brides and the crew. I would contract with other bridal agency’s that would connect me with the leads and do the admin. About 8 years ago I met Jamie, my EBC Business partner. During the Covid crisis of 2020, her and I noticed a HUGE GAP in the communication and ethics and transparency of the other agency’s we were freelancing through so we decided now was the time to expand our bridal agency and work with more artist on a consistent basis.
The birth of EverThine Beauty Co. was created by Karli Hughes and Jamie Ripplinger because we saw the missing piece of the puzzle. We wanted to create an agency for other artist to freelance in an environment where they were treated not only as part of the team, but shown respect, value and were able to make great money. In turn, we offer supreme quality, hi-end hair and makeup services to our clients that are luxurious, safe and sanitary, with Covid-19 protocols in place, and of course, we want everyone to have a worry-free and wonderful time.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I don’t believe in good luck but what I do believe is if you manifest something and have positive energy, what you dream is possible. Jamie and I had considered starting a agency 2 years prior, but timing wasn’t right. When 2020 threw a kink in everyone’s plans, that is when we started to strategize our moves to get the agency going. There was a huge missing piece on the local agency (quality control on services, lack of knowledge in compliance of laws and rules of the state, little to no communication for the brides and the artist and the artist were not paid their worth) Karli and Jamie are running EBC like how we wish we were treated as freelancers, and how we would expect to be treated as the Bride and bridal party.
I would say, and I think Jamie would agree, that the biggest challenge is to provide services for all the couples that have been displaced because of COVID. There is an abundance of weddings, and only so many talented artist to provided services. Don’t get me wrong there is tons of talent out there, but you get what you pay for. There has been a big problem with Brides/Couples hire an artist or agency and they get GHOSTED by whoever they hired. There have been opportunists that are taking a deposit from the couple and no contract has been signed and then no follow-through, where the couple are now left without someone to offer them services.
EverThine Beauty Co is in a position where have a wonderfully talented team of artist that love their craft, continue to grow and learn new techniques and have charisma. EBC has IG, website and Facebook page, great client testimonials and an admin team that can answer questions at almost any hour of the day. Or goal is to prove that there are great business and agency’s that make sure you are getting the highest quality services possible. The good ones out there just have to show what they got is good and everything falls into place.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We are here for it all. We are an all encompassing and all-inclusive group of Hair and Makeup artists that just want to make people feel good, look good and can leave their worries at the door. We do this because we love it and it offers us some pride knowing that we can make a small impact on someone else life. We need our clients as much as you need us. We offer Editorial Hair and Makeup services, Boudoir, Prom Hair and Makeup, video and Bridal Hair and Makeup.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
In the beginning, say yes to everything. Don’t close the door to opportunity. Talk to people and say hi to a stranger. You can make connections everywhere. Dress for success you get back what you give out. Sometimes the smallest plant can create an endless bounty.
