Hi, I’m Martha Krueger, Founder & CEO of Giften Market (giftenmarket.com). We soft launched on Small Business Saturday in Nov 2019 but we really hit the ground running in May 2020 with a Mother’s Day launch.
In 2019 I was ready to make a career change. I was on year 9 of running my marketing agency and craving starting something from scratch again. I sold my company to my business partner on Halloween, and immediately began building a go-to solution for gifting. With Black Friday approaching, I cranked out a minimal viable product and announced Giften Market to the world.
After learning the ins and outs of buying wholesale and laying the foundation for the Giften brand, I decided to pursue this venture full-time and scale quickly. Early feedback from customers confirmed I was on the right track with solving a problem that weighs heavily on consumers.
Over 5,000 people have already chosen Giften for their stress-free gifting experience, and we’re excited continue growing with a focus on unique and thoughtful gifts from inspiring small businesses.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
COVID and related supply chain issues have made sourcing products challenging – we’ve had to pivot many times based on product availability and packaging lead times.
In February 2020 we signed a holiday lease for a pop-up shop. We were locked into this even though barely any customers were shopping in-person. We could’ve put those dollars to use in many other ways!
