Daily Inspiration: Meet Alexander Denning

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexander Denning.

Alexander, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Alexander Robert Denning, born July 31, 1991 in Hanford, CA. Growing up my career trajectory seemed to be skateboarding…early on I was sponsored and moving up the ladder in the skate community. But, my family packed up and moved to MN for a better life. My brother and I would eventually return to the Valley (CA) where we grew up & fall into a string of poor choices. My brother would end up legal troubles and in avoiding them myself, I moved back home to Minnesota to be closer to my parents.

From this point, I had stopped skateboarding as much as I used to- and turned to negative choices of dealing drugs, committing crimes, and associating with negative influences. Once back in MN with my parents, I would continue the lifestyle I was leading while in CA, only to have an incident where an individual attacked me and I defended myself. During the altercation, I had stabbed the man, not knowing who he was or having any knowledge of him whatsoever prior to this time. He tried to run me and a friend off the road while driving home in the early morning of June 2011. I didn’t call the police, I took off and 3 weeks later the US Marshalls would raid my parent’s home looking for me & the weapon. I kept my mouth shut and would fight the case through the court proceedings.

At the conclusion of everything, I was given 20 years probation with a stay of sentence of 98 months in prison over my head. I would soon mess that 2nd chance up and be sent to prison from there. I would serve 6 years off my full sentence with no extra good time, or anything added to my sentence. I served my full 2/3 requirement by MN law. I entered a christian program in Lino Lakes prison during my sentence, and I feel this community helped me shape who I am today. I would be released from prison in April 2017, and go to work at a thrift store- Savers for the first couple months.

A past friend, a mentor who also helped shaped my prison life was a man named Vincent Tony Caracciolo, an old mobster from Philadelphia I met inside Rush City State Prison. He made me promise him I would go see a modeling agency or acting studio when I got out, so once out.. I knew I had to. For 6 months they told me I had too many tattoos… until one gave me a chance- and it started my first steps into the film & fashion industry. My first acting role was that of a prisoner in a movie titled ‘Danny’s Game’ directed by Bill Cooper of MN.

Since my release, I have walked in NYFW, New York fashion week.. been on over 100+ book covers modeling for romance, sci-fi, etc. novels… I’ve been on TV, newspaper, magazines, LIVE Tv segments, magazine covers, and so so much more. I try to give back as much as possible, while holding fashion shows/events in an effort to raise money for sick children hospitals. I have ran two fashion shows in the past in Rochester, MN to help Ronald McDonald House & Kids Dreams Come True… both nonprofits geared toward helping sick children in need… I am now currently on the road with my family in an RV, touring the US. and connecting with friends, family, & fans across the states… we are vlogging, documenting our travels across a few different social media platforms at the moment!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Many many struggles, prison, judgment, society views of ex-cons, employment, housing, etc.
