Inspiring Conversations with Allie Peters of Twin Cities Wax Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allie Peters.

Hi Allie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Over 5 years ago, I got sober. A lifestyle change like this allowed me to explore interests that had been ignored for many years. That’s when my love of skincare really started to blossom. I became obsessed with ingredients, skin regimens, product launches, I couldn’t get enough of it. At the time I was getting back on track, I worked in a field that left me exhausted and unfulfilled and I knew a change needed to be made.

That’s when I enrolled in esthetics school. I walked in there thinking I would become a skincare specialist focusing on facials and go on to get my advanced practice license. Instead, I fell in love with body waxing. I got my first job as a wax specialist at a center that saw a high volume of clients every day. Working in this environment was great for perfecting my skills because I was always working with different skin types and hair types. There was still something missing from the services I was providing and I knew I could offer something better. Thus, Twin Cities Wax Studio was born.

I took a leap of faith and opened my own business. Though I offer full body waxing, my specialty is brazilian waxing. The main reason for opening my business was to have a safe and inviting space for clients of every shape and size. I wanted to create a space where every client feels like they are accepted and never judged. Waxing is a very intimate service that can make someone feel vulnerable. My goal is to provide the best wax possible with the highest quality products, while educating my clients along the way. I treat my clients like family and treat every person walking through my door special.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
For the most part, it has been a smooth road, though definitely snags here and there. My situation was very much sink or swim. I didn’t get a loan, didn’t have tons of seed money, I just went for it. I would say the biggest struggle has been enforcing policies and sticking to them. This means having to follow through with cancellation policies and expectation. It has definitely been a process of self confidence but my amazing clients have really been great in his aspect. This is where support from other independent beauty professionals has come in. This community really knows how to lift you up and feel supported.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am a solo esthetician specializing is full body waxing and my most popular service is a Brazilian wax. I want everyone to know that waxing doesn’t need to be scary. What I love about my studio is that it allows a safe place for clients to come for a very intimate service. I do my best to make an uncomfortable service MORE comfortable, you won’t just be another client, because all my clients are special and deserve to be treated as such.. I do this by educating my clients about hair cycles, skin conditions, and the importance of aftercare. I am most proud that I have the highest quality wax, products, and retail aftercare, all which I have carefully selected. Bottom line, what people want to do with their body hair is their choice, but if they want it removed, I’m your girl.

Any big plans?
Oh wow, so many changes for the future, but nothing concrete just yet. I especially want to bring in more local brands to retail in my studio. But who knows, maybe a storefront in the future!
