Hidden Gems: Meet Noel Aldrich of Nutrition Proportion

Today we’d like to introduce you to Noel Aldrich. Hi Noel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey into nutrition and whole food therapy began within a few years after my wife and I were married. When we were struggling with some health challenges, we met with a doctor who was well established in nutrition. After a one-hour consultation, we left the doctor’s office with a slip of paper that included the list of whole foods we should buy and foods we should not buy. Within a few short months, we observed noticeable differences in our health, and I knew I needed to study the science behind this more carefully.

Fast forward to 2013, I completed graduate studies in nutrition, published my research on weight loss of mid-life adults, and received state licensure to practice nutrition. Since then, I have become a Certified Nutrition Specialist Practitioner through the American Nutrition Association, and I am a Certified Metabolic Balance Coach with Metabolic Balance, Inc.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Struggles along the way include learning the psychological side of nutrition counseling. The science is straightforward. We know what is healthy and what is not. But there are social pressures, and comfort foods, and stresses of life that constantly push at individuals to make choices that do not help them reach their health goals. Another struggle has been trying to keep my family a number one priority while establishing a clinical practice. Learning how to manage hours, and learning how to keep clients from invading family time takes some time to figure out. Related to these has been finding “the niche” that I can successfully fulfill. This includes establishing the confidence that I do know what I am doing and the service that I provide is worth the value I present.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Nutrition Proportion is the nutrition counseling and clinic that I established in 2013. I provide whole food therapy plans for individuals who want to reach their health goals through establishing healthy eating habits. I specialize in developing Metabolic Balance plans, which are personalized whole food plans based on the blood chemistry of the individual. Through the blood chemistry we identify the foods that will help the individual reach metabolic balance, and then create a menu plan based on that list of foods. I like to call this list the “bull’s eye” of foods the client should target. I am known for being a good listener and providing honest answers. Nutrition Proportion is named with the understanding that nutrition is one essential component, or one portion, to a person’s health challenges.

As the client is willing, I am willing to discuss the social, physical, and spiritual components that are also influencing the decisions they are making each day. I do not embrace “nutritionism” – the view that nutrition can solve everything. I do believe that nutrition is necessary to get a balanced approach to life. The core issue for the majority of the health issues today in America are related to a metabolism that is off balance. Heart Disease, Cancer, Diabetes, and Obesity are all related to a society that does not know the right way to eat. At Nutrition Proportion, we can help you learn the right way to eat and help you reach your health goals with a specific. personalized plan.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The health industry is going through a revolution right now. The medical side is crumbling due to politics and money that has gotten in the way of truly helping individuals. People are looking for who they can trust, and who will provide answers that really work. The nutritionist is such a person who knows what foods can help and knows the biochemistry of the body. When the biochemistry is supported well, then the health goals of the individual are achievable. General trends and forecasts are very favorable for nutritionists in the years ahead.
