Rising Stars: Meet Lizbeth Romero

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lizbeth Romero.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born and raised in Mexico, where I studied the Bachelor of International Business and worked in trade compliance for several years. Three years ago, my husband was offered a job opportunity in Minnesota, which made us very happy, as we knew it was a good thing for us. When we were in Mexico, we sold the house where we lived and all our belongings to get here with a bit of money for all the expenses that came to us in this entire moving process.

At the end of 2018, we moved to Minnesota, USA, a totally different climate than I was used to, but I loved it. During all this moving process, I started looking for information about Minnesota. I mainly wanted to hear from someone who already lived here, someone who would tell me about their experience. Unfortunately, I found very few videos, all in English; that’s how I got the idea of ​​starting my own YouTube channel talking about my experience living in the United States, specifically in Minnesota.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course not. Moving to another country is an experience that takes you entirely out of your comfort zone; you move away from your friends and family looking to improve life quality. The language was one of the most significant barriers since I did not feel comfortable speaking English, but I have improved since we moved here.

What I learned it’s not to be afraid of being wrong. When we just got here, my husband arrived with a job, but I did not. So I had to start looking for job opportunities; I went to several interviews. I was nervous, and knowing it had to be in English increased my anxiety, but in the end, I found a perfect job. The reality is that everything was new for us. We were starting from scratch, and although it was difficult, the important thing is to move, adapt and try to have the best attitude to the circumstances to continue moving forward.

I currently have my YouTube channel where I share information about life in the United States and living in Minnesota. I like to talk about this topic to help families considering moving to this country and want to know more about the good and the bad that await them. However, what makes me happy is when people message me telling me that they plan to move to Minnesota and that my videos have helped them a lot in this process.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I believe that success is not achieved overnight. I think success is the sum of several actions throughout our lives that lead us to achieve our dreams, to feel fullness with ourselves and what we offer to others.
