Inspiring Conversations with Sam Nasserian of Cozymeal

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Nasserian.

Hi Sam, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
One of my hobbies growing up included watching cooking shows and cooking competitions on TV. I grew up in Europe, where the cuisines were eclectic and the options were endless. My passion for great food grew when I moved to California and experienced first-hand the great local produce and diverse food scene, especially in melting pot cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles.

I was often disappointed by the atmosphere in restaurants where the noise levels were loud, the quality of the food was mediocre, and there was never an opportunity to see or interact one-on-one with the chefs in the kitchen. With a background in building online marketplaces (I used to be in leadership roles at Upwork and JustAnswer), I started Cozymeal to connect guests with some of the top local chefs for intimate one-on-one culinary experiences.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like other business owners, pivoting as a result of the pandemic was a difficult challenge. In addition, we wanted to ensure the health and safety of our guests, as well as our partners were a top priority, so we implemented safety measures in place to ensure we were complying with all of the COVID-19 guidelines. Not only did we expand our offerings to include virtual experiences, but we also work with local chef and host partners and an in-house team of photographers and videographers, helping to create jobs while empowering them to be their own bosses.
