Today we’d like to introduce you to Adolfo Barrera Gonzalez.
Hi Adolfo, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Growing up, I always remembered my parents each working 2 jobs at a time, constantly working. Yet my childhood was the best , although they worked a lot, they never failed me. I always spent time with them, One of the things I will always remember my father telling me when I was 12 years old on our way to a side job on a weekend, was to not work like they have been working, dead end jobs, to be my own boss. He planted a seed in my head that day, and he continued to water it on long car rides to my soccer games, to side jobs early weekend mornings and we began just exploring ideas and giving each other feedback at a young age.
To give you context both my parents are Immigrants. They traveled to the USA for a better life as teenagers seeking the American Dream. it wasn’t until I was 15-16 that the thought of them working at a Culvers, Wendys, McDonald’s and Janitor was weird. It was then when I realized that majority of my classmates’ parents don’t work at fast food restaurants and they don’t all have 2 jobs each at once.
It wasn’t until I had the opportunity to join an elective class my junior year named DECA that I really got a taste of business, I could really care less about the school, I actually often skipped class but always made sure I made it to DECA, that’s when I really started to take my parents and I conversations a bit more serious. I knew at that moment I wanted to own something, build something, make money and leave a legacy, create opportunities.
My parents could tell how serious I was, they began exploring ideas and ended up having a meeting with a Non-Profit Company name Latino Economic Development Center or LEDC. My dad’s intention was to start a restaurant, I had no intention on opening one up at 17. After much discussion, we decided to start our own residential cleaning company. That was my first company, we started as a franchise and left the franchise model after a year and a half.
Between 19-22 years old I spent those years trying and failing to build my family cleaning company, a mixture of inexperienced and immaturity on my part gave me many lessons in those years, Inexperience in not only life but business basics, cash flow, money management, Administrative duties, Systems, Leads and clientele and biggest one TAXES. At the same time, I had my firstborn, life was happening and the biggest obstacle I have faced was Ego.
The failures I felt were screamed at the top of the mountains, after all in a Hispanic culture I felt the entire country of Mexico knew about my failures. Although Ego was my biggest obstacle, it helped me power through those years to not fail and give up and it gave me an enormous self belief that I could do this and make this happen one way or another.
Fast forward between 23-25 years old, my family’s cleaning company does roughly 120 cleans a month and continues to do so with a clear path to grow bigger as a cleaning company. My brother has stepped into Operations Role managing every aspect of our family cleaning business as well as partnering with me in other ventures,
With our experience now in starting from scratch in residential cleaning we started a consulting company, BG Consulting LLC to help and assist people with similar dreams and aspirations to create and build a cleaning company. We partner with business owners and educate them, provide pathways, and have allowed them to use us as a resource.
Within those years I got my Real Estate License, with a busy schedule and really attempting to build a Real Estate business in 2021 I manage to sell over $2.6 Million in Real Estate Volume and looking to double that in 2022.
I manage to secure and build an extension of my cleaning business by buying a Gutter Cleaning business that Generates $125k in revenue in 2021 and with my ownership, we will be looking to double it in 2022 while planning to add services like window cleaning, power washings, snow removal in the coming years,
I am getting a taste in Real Estate Investing by securing my first flip this year, with no money in the deal. I found it, negotiated it and secured 100% of the funding by a close business partner, we close on it in early 2022.
I do this with the help of my parents who gave me the ultimate self belief and courage to do this at a young age, My brother who is my business partner who checks me and allows me to go out and grow this vision.
I could not be here without self awareness that I have developed to grow my mental capacity, and to allow me to manage the anxiety and stress this all brings but also my family that keep me on my toes in raising a 5 and 7-year-old with my girlfriend,
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Now as I venture into multiple businesses, each business in itself has problems. I also now encounter how to manage the actual mental capacity and stress and anxiety they all bring as I grow these ventures.
My goal is to partner with individuals that see my vision and have that grit to help me build these businesses.
