Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Joseph.
Hi Mark, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My mother bought me my first guitar when I was 10, saw BB King the next summer and the rest of history! Ha! I fell in love with the blues and that’s very much was the foundation of my playing. Since then I’ve played many many styles of music from Country to Reggae. What can I say, I love it all!
I’ve been full time on the road since 2003 and still making music and celebrating my 3rd full length Mark Joseph record “Vegas Motel”. I’ve proud to say I’ve performed in almost all 50 states, Mexico, Virgin Islands and Japan. 2022 looks to be an exciting year and we are looking and move forward full steam ahead!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not always been a smooth road per-say, but I believe it’s all about your attitude and a humble outlook of gratitude. Making a way in the music business can be very difficult, from the many costs and setbacks of travel to the long haul it takes to establish yourself and find success. Managing band members and a business are major challenges as well and you learn plenty when you set to it. You have to be tough to make it and build a strong team around you.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Proud to say I’ve recorded 7 full length records, 2 EPS, 2 documentaries and countless other recording sessions and projects in my career. Producing records is one of the great pleasures of what I do. To work with a quality artist on strong songs is such a pleasure and I always look forward to the opportunity. I’ve run a production company for many years that specializes in artist booking, management and promotions. So I’ve gained a deep knowledge of the music business from that experience. I feel like I’m very much known for my guitar playing style and singing abilities…and hopefully being a kind person. 🙂
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Make sure you learn how to run a clean and smart business, from accounting to proper practices. Communication is key to success. Communicate your intentions and actions clearly so people around you understand where you are at. When others know where you are at, they can better support you and effectively work in tandem with you! Be strong and always keep moving forward. It’s all about the long haul. Don’t be too hard on yourself and keep it fun!
