Meet Korina Yang

Today we’d like to introduce you to Korina Yang.

Hi Korina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
For the last few years, I’ve been on a journey of finding my true self. Although it was easy for me to adapt to people, places, and things, I just never really felt like I belonged. I’ve been in the hospitality industry for as long as I could remember. From the front, to the back of restaurants, and I’ve even bartended at a time in my life. Very much until now, I always thought that it was my niche. I mean, I look at my siblings, and I felt like everybody had their “niche”, I have a sibling that is a photographer, one that does music, one that is a nail artist and soon-to-be lash technician, and one has a business sewing baby clothes. I have countless friends and family who own their own businesses as well. I always thought that one of my best qualities was that I loved to cook, for friends, family, and even strangers. I even decided to start catering on the side. I really thought it was what it was my thing. Only then I realize that what I was doing was not something I loved, it was just something I knew how to do. That’s when I spoke to a friend, and she suggested I take on spray tanning, and teeth whitening (I have yet to bring that on board). She told me she really noticed all these years, how much I liked tanning, and whitening my teeth! She also knew I wasn’t ready to go back to working a 9-5, so she told me about these training classes that were being held, and recommended I get trained (Shoutout to Noelle, Owner of The Glow Up Mpls!), and to really just do the damn thing! I didn’t think much about it much at all! I jumped the gun and here I am 6 months later!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve only had my business running for almost 6 months, and I’ve had setbacks, both big and small. A big part of me is being afraid to fail. I absolutely want to persevere. So, getting myself back up and trying to be better than the day I was before, is something I choose to work on a daily basis. There are days I want to give up, but I have to keep my goals in mind at all times. Having anxiety as a small business owner is one of my biggest struggles, but I get to make that choice, and it doesn’t have to define me.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Certified Spray Tan Technician and I am based in Northeast Minneapolis. I specialize in natural airbrush tanning, and I hope to bring on board tan contouring and teeth whitening as well! Alongside starting my own small business, nothing makes me more proud than seeing other people smile.

I love making people feel good, and it’s only a spray tan away 😉 I feel like what sets me apart from others is that I am Asian. There’s aren’t many Asian Spray Tan Technicians that I know of in the Twin Cities, and I love that I am able to bring this into the community. But, of course, my demographic isn’t just for the Asian population here. I’ve loved being a lot of people’s first experience! I am super overjoyed with all the love and support that I have received in the recent months, and I hope it continues.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I’m always looking to collaborate! I already feel like when anyone books a spray tan with me, it’s a collaboration in itself. I’m so thankful for the people who have supported me by sharing my posts, recommending me, and, by booking with me, and allowing me to spray tan them. Seeing their photos from their vacations, weddings, special day, etc. really makes me feel like I brought them a little more life. Because I always feel a little more alive when I’m tanned. 😉
